This statue, including the base, is taller than the Christ in Brazil! Separating North and South Quito, it is a first showing the Virgin Mary with angelic wings. Made of aluminum, it is a beautiful sight to see

I drove up to the Virgen and happily paid $1 to park the car adjacent to the statue. The views give a strong impression of the city geography and there is a row of tourist souvenir stalls and a food area if that is what you need.

Overlooks all of Quito. That is very impressive. What is dismaying is the amount of graffiti in the area. People are taking very good care of the statue and the surrounding plants. But other things, such as the plaza where the statue is located, seem neglected.

The view of Quito from this lookout is amazing. At 3,035m/9,967 above sea level, you get to see all of the city and the surrounding mountains. If you're feeling fit you can walk up, but a taxi or the hop on/hop off bus is recommended.

Apart from being sort of a challenging structural engineering project, the best views of Quito are from here. There is small museum inside the statue along with photos of various phases of the project installation. The statue is made of Aluminum!

Across the main attraction, there is a row of souvenir shops with reasonably priced gift items. Also during my visit, I saw a live music performance with beautiful traditional indian dresses and musical instruments.

If you have time, do visit this place and you will get the best views of Quito from here.

Incredible expansive views of city and the surrounding mountains. One dollar to go up the inside to observation deck is well worth it. It is walkable from the Centro Historico, but the bus makes it easy.

El Panecillo guards the city, named Quito.
Take a Hop On Hop Off Bus to reach this destination, early in the morning

This review is a bit of a mixed bag. The best feature is the great view of Quito and surrounding volcanoes, and for this alone it is worth the trip up La Panecillo (little loaf of bread). You are at an elevation of around 10,000 feet above sea level on a volcanic hill. There used to be a temple here where the indigenous people worshiped the sun, but it was destroyed by the Spanish conquistadores.

The next best reason to make the trek up is to see the “Virgin of Quito” up close. This is a stone statue, about 45 meters high, covered with 7000 pieces of aluminum in a mosaic design. She is on a globe, stepping on a snake, which is typical of how madonnas are presented. What is not typical, however, are the wings and the impression of a dancing movement. She has a halo of 12 stars, perhaps representing the Woman of the Apocalypse mentioned in Revelation 12:1-18. Certainly she is unique in a few ways and can be seen from many places in the city below as she stands high upon her hill. There are a few shops under tents with a lot of local handicrafts. There was no pressure to buy anything and no vendors approached us. Unfortunately, there is a negative aspect. We were advised to remove our jewelry, especially necklaces that can be grabbed, and be VERY aware of pickpockets. Watch bags, wallets, pockets, etc. In addition, no not approach or touch ANY dogs. Some bite, and since their health is questionable one could end up requiring medical attention. So..... go, but be very very careful. We had no trouble at all and the view was spectacular.

The views from up here are totally worth the time and effort to get here. I looked at my phone and it was just shy of 10,000 ft altitude which was pretty cool. Great pano pictures. Highly recommend.
