Sunday is the best day to go. So much to see, buy, and eat. They sell everything from hats to sandals to paintings. The families are out playing, riding bikes or little ones riding in peddle cars. The food is very good there, chicken or pork kabobs. Plenty of fruit and ice cream. Just relaxing and taking in the atmosphere is a happy day.

You can rent a bike here or at parque La Carolina for about $3 an hour and then go up and down Amazonas (which is closed to traffic from 8am to 2pm). It was super fun and suprisingly well organized. Good clean bathrooms are hard to find (which is the case in most of Ecuador).

This is the best park to visit on weekends. It doesn't look over the city, but has a lot to offer. There are food vendors, tons of kids running around playing with plastic cars, etc. that they put out for them, lots of play ground equipment and on weekends there is an artisan/art market. It is usually buzzing with people! The market has quite a bit to offer and the art around the outside is gorgeous!

This is a lovely park in the heart of Quito. It's a nice place to relax and watch local people with their kids, engaged in all sorts of recreation from playing football to pedaling little cars around a track. On weekends there is a big artisans market with a wide variety of handicrafts, much (but not all) of it made in Ecuador. A good place to buy souvenirs.

Lots of food. Lots of kids. Lots of laughter. Crafts to buy, and just a nice stroll. A very pleasant way to see Ecuadorian families at play.
