With a wonderful private (included) tour led by a high-school intern, this house was a trip highlight

It's a pity that we were the only people to be visiting this small museum during our hour or so tour. We were led through this elegant home of a 19th century Ecuadorian philanthropist by a knowledgeable English-speaking guide. Mixing beauty, art and 19th century innovations (e.g., kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures), this small museum is definitely worth a visit if you're taking a walk in Quito's beautiful Old Town.

For $2 you get admission to this formerly private home of Maria Augusta and learn about Quito and the landed gentry. Our guide, a little hard to understand his English was very knowledgable as well as friendly.

Excellent example of a "home" in Quito in the 19th century. This Old Town (the colonial district of Quito) home was a wonderful surprise as we toured this most amazing part of Quito. As I wandered the house I imagined what Doña Maria's life must have been like. A philanthropist, in the true sense of the word, she devoted her life and her wealth to the needy for which she received much recognition (even a Presidential citation). Her spirit still lives in the halls of this old Spanish style home. The furniture and decor is if the finest of the time. A true treasure of Old Town Quito.

Cute historic house, with low entrance fee and English speaking tourguides.

This may sound odd, but the most interesting part was the elaborate bathroom.
