Overall really liked this hotel. Roomy, comfortable, free wi-fi, CNN (our 1st in a week). I loved the firm mattresses, husband didn't. Great location in Marischal, walking distance to Plaza Foch and the Mercado. Most of the staff were pretty friendly and helpful. If you are lucky you will meet Victor Alban (bellman) - he's a terrfic resource for all things in the area. Very good restaurant downstairs. Caveats: room above 5th floor seem older, a little tired, lack water pressure. Hotel apparently has central air, no room adjustment, room can get stuffy, noisy if you open balcony doors....couldn't ever get resolution on this. So probably would pass in really hot weather, otherwise definitely stay again

I stayed in 5 awesome hotels across peru and ecuador and this one was my least favorite. Definitely not worth more than the 80$/night. I might actually rate it good for the price but don't have the option. I picked this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews and I see now that most reviews are quite accurate, but it depends which room you end up in. We were in one of the better ones (with a view of the mountain) but I still wish I stayed somewhere else. The rooms can be a little noisy (some honking) depending on their location. The room we had was just like the picture, The rooms are a little tired, beds are old and hard but OK, room smelled of smoke (try to get a non-smoking room if you can). Bathrooms are very clean, breakfast not always included in rate so make sure (5$ extra per person, good food, terrible coffee), Service was what you expect of a business hotel (professional). Do your laundry elsewhere though: 33$ for some underwear, socks, and T shirts was a rip-off : they charge by the piece rather than the bagload or the kilo, and the guy at the desk would not tell me how much laundry costs ahead of time (Don't worry, we can take care of that for you blah blah). cost me 6$ at another hotel. Victor the concierge also runs his own day tour company, good guy to hook up with.

We have stayed at The Sebastian two times for multiple nights each time and the hotel is clean and beautifully decorated, which are nice, BUT...the beds were very hard and very uncomfortable and the noise from the street in the front is a problem for even deep sleepers and if you choose to stay on the back side the rooms are extremely small and there were roosters waking us up at 4:30AM. Neither of these are very good to deal with, so we will look for a different option our next stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Sebastian during our 10 day visit in Ecuador. We found the staff very helpful in all aspects of our visit. The restaurants provides a very nice breakfast and we had dinner a couple of time (which was also excellent). The staff speaks good English and provides helpful information about the city and surrounding areas and in most cases has their own taxi available for short trips within the city. The hotel is located in what seems to be a very safe part of the city within walking distance of many restaurants/cafes and the local market (great prices and lovely crafted items). If I returned to Quito I would definitely stay at the Sebastian.

Great location very near Plaza Quinde and the La Mariscal area which is where most tourists stay and were all the restaurants and bars are. The hotel options in the Old City are limited and expensive. Sebastian is about a 3 minute walk from Plaza Quinde (I think its also called Plaza Foch) and its very quiet as a result. Most of the bars and a lot of restaurants are 24 Hour in La Mariscal - if you stay nearer the Plaza the racket at night is unbelieveable. As you approach the Plaza on foot from 7pm its just hopping - loud music and lots of cars just crusing and people generally partying. Nu House Hotel for example is up over a 24 Hour bar - the noise is something else in the Square/Plaza at night. For this reason Sebastian is the best of both worlds, close enough to enjoy the party scene but away from it so you can get a nights sleep! The rooms in Sebastian and nicely decorated and I'm sure were very modern in their day.. but whilst they are nice its not the most modern of decor. Don't get me wrong - its absolutely fine and very comfortable. The standard of cleanliness is excellent - the cleaning staff are very good. Free mineral water for brushing your teeth. Very good restaurant on site - we had breakfast every day USD5.20 each for the full buffet - unbeatable! Great fruits, juices, cereals, eggs, breads, cheese, cooked meats etc etc. Very good quality. The service staff are lovely they get to know you and before you even sit down they have your tea/coffee ready!! We dealt with a lovely girl on the front desk Maria, she couldn't have been better, very friendly and helpful with all our enquirys. Victor, Wilson and Ronaldo the Conceriges were great as well - always grabbing a taxi for us and negotiating the rate! Taxis are sooo cheap anyway we never really haggled, they drive you for almost nothing anyway - very safe in Quito too (not like the scary taxis in Cusco!).
Cable TV is great - lots of movies and channels in Sebastian for free - free WIFI in the rooms as well and 2 computers downstairs and a printer if you don't have your own laptop.. all free.
We ate dinner in the Sebastian as well - great club sandwiches and the local Ecudorian food was as good as Mama Clorinda (which is a recommended local food restaurant) we thought Sebastian was better in fact and not expensive. We had beers, coffees, tea, sodas etc all in the same price range as down in Plaza Foch. Sebastian is great value. Last thing, my boyfriend got very sick (avoid Adams Rib restaurant) and they called the Doctor for the emergency from a nearby clinic - and this medical call was paid for by the Sebastian! The Doc arrived in less than 30 mins as promised by Marie at the hotel front desk. I've never had medical aid thrown in by a Hotel before!
We stayed for 9 nights in total - 4 nights first and then went to Napo for 3 nights and then choose to come back to Sebastian for the remainder of our trip instead of another hotel - Sebastian was that good. For the first few nights we had a regular room which was nice and roomy no complaints, very good. We were upgraded to a corner suite on our return after Napo and WOW the suite was amazing! Olde worlde type decor but lovely. Make sure you take room as close to the top of hotel as possible for views.
Perhaps the only little niggly thing is the price of the laundry service - its fast but expensive. There are loads of laundry places just down the street for a quarter of the price of Sebastian, bit more leg work but ...
All in all can't say enough about Sebastian and the whole team - we loved it and recommend it wholeheartedly.

I stay at the Hotel Sebastian about six times a year while on business. The rooms are very comfortable, price is reasonable, the restaurant food is very good and the staff is superb. I highly recommend this hotel - which I would rate best in Quito for its category.
