“A very special hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2011

From outside without special attraction, inside in the lobby we were welcomed by bundles and beautiful arrangements of hundreds of fresh roses. Travelling on Euro-basis, prices in Ecuador are modest from our perspective. So we decided in favour of the honeymoon-suite on the highest floor, tremendous large and situated at a corner offering a stunning view over Quito. We like large beds and were very happy with the 2,20m (!) kingsize bed. All the staff in the hotel, at the reception or bringing some drinks to our room, were very friendly and always had kind words for us with a smile on their lips - what a beautiful atmosphere!

The hotel is situated in a safe area with dozens of little restaurants in walking distance - nevertheless we prefered the outstanding breakfasts in the morning and exceptional good local food for dinners in the evening in the hotel-restaurant.

In summary: hotels like this are the cream on a beautiful cake like Quito.

Room Tip: If your budget allows it, take the honeymoon-suite.

Our family of five stayed here for tow nights at the end of our 9 day stay in Ecuador. We had a triple for the teenagers, and a double for the adults, which worked out perfectly. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and comfortable. The staff was incredible, and really couldn't have been more helpful. They provided wonderful restaurant and sightseeing recommendations, and provided transportation as well. It was two or three blocks from Plaza Foch, which the kids loved, and within walking distance of lots of great restaurants and shops.

As far as safety, we were out every night until 10 - 10:30, and never felt like there was a problem.

Located in the new part of Quito, near the larger chain hotels, this locally run hotel provides a good value. The double rooms are spacious with large beds and wardrobes, a sitting area, a desk, an eating area, large bathrooms with a tub/shower and double vanity, and a balcony. Front desk staff were very helpful although some spoke limited English. The Sebastian is a family / business hotel with some conference facilities and a business center. The resturant served local and international dishes at resonable prices. There is a buffet breakfast that is a bit pricey if not purchased with the room. A few other restaurants, including a good pizzaria are nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the building have balconies and are larger but may have some traffic noise.

My husband and two kids stayed at the Hotel Sebastian for two nights (Saturday and Sunday nights) before our trip to the Amazon and then one night (Friday night) after our trip. THe hotel is very nice and is in a great central location, 3-4 blocks from Plaza Foch. The rooms were very clean, a nice size and the beds comfortable. We even had a nice view of the mountains from our rooms. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was good and they had a lot of options which was great for my children who are very picky eaters. The breakfast buffet was also good - they made eggs to order and had enough of a selection that we all found something to eat. My only compaint about this hotel is the noise from the street. I mentioned earlier that this hotel is 3-4 blocks from Plaza Foch, this is both good and bad. Plaza Foch has a lot of good restaurants and shops and is a fun place to hang out etc. The bad part is that on Friday and Saturday nights it is a huge and I mean huge party scene. You would think that with the hotel being 3-4 blocks away you wouldn't hear the noise but you can. ALL night we heard car alarms, police sirens, drag racing, ambulances. At one point it sounded like there was a parade going down the street. THe noise never stopped until about 6 am. Even my kids who are 10 and 13 didn't sleep at all. Sunday night wasn't so bad but just be aware that if you stay here on a Friday or Saturday night and aren't into the party scene you probably won't get much sleep.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews from Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. Although it is not considered a 5-star property, it has many great features.
Firstly, the reception staff was friendly, attentive and so helpful (especially George). They spoke reasonable English and I tried to use my limited Spanish--there was no problem communicating.
They arranged for taxis (always at front door--$7 USD for the 25 min trip to the airport) or tours (Wilson--speaks only a little English but very interested in helping--or Elias who speaks much better English--were available to take us to Cotopaxi volcano $70 USD and a tour of the Old Town $10 USD per hr).
The hotel offers a self-serve Business Centre where we accessed email and even printed boarding passes--no charge.
Another service: our luggage was stored for us while we went to the Amazon and then again when we went to the Galapagos because there is a luggage weight limit of only 20 lbs per person. They give you a tag and you present it when you return and the bellman quickly retrieves your luggage for you and cheerfully takes it up to you room.
Speaking of rooms. Our first 2 nights were in #708 and although large, with 3 beds for the 2 of us, was a little "tired" as stated in other reviews, and the noise from the street was quite noticable. It is true that the car alarms go off constantly but that is not within the hotel's control of course.
After returning from the Amazon we had room # 505, then after the Galapagos we had # 605. These last 2 rooms had small balconies with a good view of the Pichincha volcano and the city plus seemed more modern with nicer bathrooms. They were also quieter because they weren't facing the main street. The beds were very comfortable, by the way.
I am saving the best for last: the restaurant. We had free breakfasts with the cost of the room--eggs made to order, fruit, fresh buns and croissants, coffee con leche (meaning hot milk for the coffee--a nice touch). The restaurant seemed to be open all day and evening because anytime we wanted to eat--it was open--sometimes there was no one else there but us. You could choose to pay cash or charge to your room. The staff dress and act very professional. You can point at what you want on the menu and it has a corresponding number or you can try your best at pronouncing the dish in Spanish. The best part, however, is the food and the price! The prices include the 22% tax and gratuity. We absolutely loved the dishes we tried. The potato soup with avocado, eggs, corn and even lettuce garnish was so good I had it a few times. The pollo al gratin (chicken salad on toast covered in melted parmesan cheese) was sumptuous. The sea bass and pork chops were great too. The desserts were so tasty. Everything was so good and there was such a great selection we did not care to venture out to try anywhere else, especially when it so frequently rains in Quito. We enjoyed people-watching through the big windows that surround the restaurant.
All in all, we felt safe and at home at The Sebastian and if in Quito again would gladly revisit.

The Hotel Sebastian was a WELCOME REFUGE from the "Hustle & Bustle" of Quito's Madness. The Rooms were Luxuriously Comfortable. The Staff was outstanding. Great Bath Amenities Some REALLY Nice "Touches". Wireless Worked Flawlessly. TV & Channel selection A-1. Location was perfect. We will return here & stay again on our NEXT & Subsequent Visits. OVERALL a "GREAT" Value.
