“The most comfortable bed and pillows I have every had in a hotel anywhere.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

We had room number nine and the bed and pillows were to die for. It was our first hotel in Ecuador and the best. We spent more but liked this one the best. The staff was very helpful, Luis spoke his spanish slowly for me as I was learning, Andres was wonderful as a waited and the desk staff was ever so helpful. Only complaint was the restaurant had no wine though it was on the menu and one bottle of beer for us to split. Not a serious things but since it doesn't spoil you would think they could have some always on hand. Location was great. They were out of maps (keeping stocked seems to be a problem) but a short walk to the Hop on Hop off bus took us right outside the Hilton where we asked for directions and they gave us maps and more info. Very accommodating. We would definately stay at the Cafe Cultura again and request room number nueve!

Room Tip: Number 9 has a terriffic bed and pillows. :)

A thousand thanks for your kind message about Cafe Cultura. It is great to know that you thoroughly enjoy our beds and pillows, and it is a pitty that we run out of wine, it seems that previously to our arrival we had a large group apperantly consumed most of our wine and sinced they wer numorous all 42 of them they did in fact appropiate all of our maps, apparently our printed information is on hide the man.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

The first thing to strike you on entering the hotel is how beautiful the walls look - all of them, in every room, are floor to ceiling frescoes. The staff are excellent - all were friendly, helpful and spoke good English. They also manned the desk 24 hour per day. The rooms are nothing fancy, but they are comfortable, and the restaurant is excellent. The location is great - within walking distance of the Mariscal square, the El Ejido Park and right next to the Artisan Market. The pre-made breakfast packs for people travelling to the airport at ridiculously early hours were a particularly nice touch. The downsides - if they fail to get their delivery of gas bottles (for instance on public holidays) then there is no hot water in the rooms. Also, room 7 is located above a noisy bus station which seems to operate all night long. Finally, they keep the only entrance to the hotel padlocked for most of the time - while it provides security, it means that you always have to get a staff member to let you in or out. Overall, it's certainly not 5-star accommodation, but it doesn't pretend to be.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 7 and 8 if possible, so that you are not located over the all-night bus station. If you...

Could not find Rent 4 wheel drive on Trip Advisor so am using Cafe Cultura to rate Rent 4 Wheel drive. cafe Cultura is one of The Exclusive Hotels and Haciendas of Ecuador's properties and they also have Rent 4 Wheel Drive. We rented a car for four days, it was a Hyundai minivan with a turbo Diesel engine. Plenty of power for the mountain roads, plenty of space for 4 people and our luggage. Edison Sola, our driver, spoke good English, was a safe driver and while not a guide, was very helpful in explaining his country and leading us to experiences and sites we would not have discovered without him. He was always on time and had a good sense of humor. Jenna Manders the person I coordinated with was very helpful and responsive, even calling me at one point to finalize details. If you are looking for a safe, reliable car and driver in Ecuador, at a reasonable price, contact Rent4 Wheel Drive.

day starts early as half the guests depart for galapagas at 6 in the morning.
No elevator, lots of stairs however. Good food in the restaurant. Central location near a large park.
fairly expensive, no place to park a vehicle.

Room Tip: stay at the rabitta instead

Dir Sir/Madam,

I`m terribly sorry that we didn`t meet your expectations do to the lack of elevator in our stablishment, you see the fact that we operate from a listed building limits the possibilities from having one.

The next time you come back Quito, we`ll make sure you have a beutiful room in the ground floor.

Whishing you the best.

My husband and I spent 5 days in Quito and chose Cafe Cultura after they gave us a last minute deal on a suite. I don't know if they do this all the time when they have availability, but try e-mailing them directly if your plans are flexible. They are very responsive via email and we found the staff very helpful and accommodating. They speak perfect English.

Neighborhood - The location is incredibly convenient -- a few blocks away from Plaza Foch, which has tons of restaurants, cafes and bars. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, but lively at night. As other reviewers mention there is also plenty of places to get an inexpensive "almuerzo" (preset lunch menu) for $3-$4 that includes a soup, a main dish which is usually chicken or beef, rice/salad, and small dessert. It is not walking distance to the historic center of Quito, but after visiting there you would not really want to stay in the center. It's nice during the day and you can take a quick cab ride for $4-$5. The hotel can call a taxi for you if you don't want to get one off the street.

There is also a handicraft market a few blocks away from Cafe Cultura with nice woven and leather goods plus chocolate, bagged coffee and souvenir stands. Prices were fair for being a market in the city. Finally, there is a nice park walking distance where you can see some street performers or just stroll around on a nice afternoon.

Rooms-- Cafe Cultura is as advertised. They have a beautiful library/sitting area with a chimney in the front where you can use their computer, borrow books and relax in front of the fire after a long day of touring. They decorate all their common areas with fresh roses, which I think is a great detail since roses are local to Ecuador. Their rooms are nicely appointed and tastefully decorated in the style of the house. The beds are super comfortable with nice white down bedding and pillows. Our room had a jug of fresh water refilled every day (which you'll need because the altitude makes you extra thirsty!) and fresh roses every other day. We had a suite so it was a nice size room with an adjacent area with an antique desk, a bench, and a view to the garden plus a big bathroom. The draperies are nice and thick so that the room gets really dark even though is nice and airy during the day. It also had a chimney but it was not necessary for the time of the year. We were on the ground floor, so noise was not an issue. You are in the city, so at night the occasional car or truck may be loud, but we always travel with a white noise app so this is not an issue or have ear plugs at hand although I don't think you'll need them.

Internet -- I'm a road warrior, so fast Internet is really important for me. The whole house has Wi-Fi and it worked great in our room and in the common areas. It was high speed Internet.

Food-- We just had their breakfast which was included with our room and it was simple but delicious. Eggs, fresh bread, fresh juice of different seasonal fruits, coffee or tea. Even though we didn't eat other meals at their restaurant the lunch and dinner menus looked really good even if a bit pricey. The service at the restaurant was impecable. They also packed us a delicious bagged breakfast 2 days of our stay because our tours left really early in the morning. Finally, there is also hot water, a tea selection and coffee throughout the day in a common area. A very nice touch.

Overall, I would highly recommend Cafe Cultura, if you are looking for a true boutique-style hotel experience.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the ground floor suites.

If you want a hotel that is different, this is the place. Interesting room decor, comfortable library/sitting room, restaurant that serves all meals and exceptional staff. During our stay my husband was admitted to hospital, the night staff and all the girls on reception, as well as the dining/kitchen staff did everything to help; organising the best hospital, phone calls, translation, taxis, nothing was a trouble. We will definitely stay there again when we are able to return to finish our holiday.

Room Tip: The smaller rooms at the back are quieter than the ones on the first floor. As the hotel is heritage...

Clean comfortable, interesting 'boutique' hotel in Quito. Rooms are basic but comfortable and I would gladly stay there again. Food and service is good while staff are friendly. Wi-fi (a bit slow, but you are in Ecuador)' library, bar all interestingly furnished and decorated.
