While touring Quito be sure to schedule a visit to the Guayasamin Museum and Temple of Man.
Visitors will get to tour the last home of this famous Ecuadorian artist and view his private collection, his studio and a few of his unfinished pieces. The grounds of the home are complete with sculptures of the artists and a beautiful view of the heart of the city.
The "Temple of Man" or Capilla del Hombre is Guayasamins homage to man. Some pieces are quite macabre while others display man's ability to care and love for others. This "temple" was never fully finished as the artists dies before its completion. This temple could also be considered Guayasamin's homage to himself as well.
Take a cab from anywhere in Quito to the museum. It is located in the "Bella Vista" neighborhood. If you are willing to walk be prepared to walk uphill. The neighborhood is safe during the day. Entrance is free on Sundays. Entrance to the home and temple are separate entry fees to be paid at the main gate.
