“An Important Piece of Church History”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

The Church is still being used and it is impressive. Dare you to attend mass, it is an experience. Take a tour and visit the San Francisco Convent too! You have not seen Historic Quito if you have not been here.

“Interesting shops under the Church to explore”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

Not as ornate as La Compania, but once you are done check out the shops under the cathedral where there are local artisans works for sale. Afterwards, grab lunch or coffee at their outdoor cafe. All three activites can easily take 2 hours.

“Under renovation”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Scaffolding marred the impact of this oldest church in Quito when I was there. It is said to be built on an ancient Inca temple which accounts for it's plaza being so sloped. This area of the colonial district is a bit dicey for thieves I was told by locals so be careful with cameras and valuables while visiting. I had no problem.

“Impressive 'golden' church”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

I've visited many churches in the past but this church is significantly different. Honestly, there was maybe just a little bit to much gold inside even for a gold bug as myself. Be careful for pickpockets!
