Owner description: This Jesuit church is a masterpiece of baroque and Quiteno-colonial art with lavish golden altars and gilded columns, making it one of the most ornate structures in Ecuador.

The entire interior is gilded with many tons of gold. If you visit only one place in Quito, you have to choose this church. The facade is carved from stone. It is a fine example of the baroque style.

Wonderful church, an orgy of gold and baroque. We.visited during the Holy Week and it was a great experience.

The entire interior, probably carved by untold Indian "slaves" 400 years ago, is gilded with what is reported to be 8 tons of gold. This is probably an exaggeration, but it is still fantastic. It is a don't miss sight in Quito. They don;t have much in the way of helpful interpretive materials and they charge admission, but it is worth it. A a work of art it is incredible; as an example of the role of religion in the 16th century Spanish Empire, there is no finer example.

I might object to the gold that lines this church on principle, but boy is it pretty! The stained glass is stunning and there is a very interesting museum if you enjoy Jesuit history and can read Spanish. E cost to enter is $2 per adult, less for seniors and children. Have small bills ready!

This is a must-visit in Quito.
From outside, you may think "what's the fuss?", but once inside, every single part takes your breath away. Gold everywhere - only place I have visited that came close is the Kremlin.
Don't miss any corner - the detail everywhere is spectacular. Oh, and be ready to have a sore neck from ceiling-gazing!
