There is a reason this hotel is number one - its absolutely gorgeous, the suites are all unique and individual. decor is wonderful, location is pretty close to Centro Historico. Staff with few exceptions are courteous, professional and very attentive. very expensive of course - we were booked in here as part of our cruise package, but it was so nice we decided to treat ourselves to another night (our last in Quito).
There was a little confusion with wake-up call timing, a requested taxi that never materialized, and paying the bill; but not a big deal. maybe they need some better communication between the evening and morning staff. but whatever, overall, a real gem and suits for a bit of a splurge or special treat.

This boutique hotel is a trip into Quito's past glory. It's centuries old rooms havr high ceilings and hardwood floors, the large, completely new & modren bathrooms have beautifully tiled showers with thick glass doors. The decor of the hotel has kept the traditional, historical furnishings you would expect if you were visiting during the last century. Great locationtoo, nestled between Alameda park & old town, not far from either the new or old parts of town. The people at the hotel are so charming and friendly. you feel quite at home, so it is easy to imagine yourself someone of importance. Last, but not least, it is a really well priced property, one of the best deals in Quito for what you get.

The Mansion del Angel is absolutely gorgeous and the staff couldn't have done more for us!

We arrived at the hotel for our last night in Ecuador after our jungle trip and we what a way to complete a vacation! The hotel is truly a mansion and the service is impecable! After being met at the locked gate by a gentleman who picked up our suitcases and carried them up the steps, we entered a beautiful lobby and were greeted by a fluently English speaking hostess. She quickly sent our bags upstairs, we completed our paperwork and then were led to the most gorgeous suite we had ever seen anywhere! The walls were decorated with huge paintings, the bed was a gigantic canopy bed with plush robes layed out for us, there was a huge sitting room, the ceilings were probably 15 feet high at least, and there was a huge bouquet of fresh flowers on our coffee table.
Outside our room was an incredible living room that had to be seen to be believed. The whole setting was reminiscent of the Newport, RI mansions!

Hungry and tired, I asked if there was a place nearby for lunch. The hostess quickly offered to have lunch made for us and served in the covered atrium where breakfast is also served (and dinner, if you pre-order). We cleaned up and rested for 1/2 hour and were called that our lunch was ready. Delightful sandwiches were served to us under silver platter covers, along with a delicious salad and tea.

After lunch, we wanted to visit the equator, and a cab was arranged for us by the hostess. We returned to the hotel and were greeted by 5 o'clock tea with cookies served by another staff member who returned over and over to see if we needed more water poured. We really felt like royalty at this point.

I asked if there was a computer to print our boarding passes for the next day and was quickly directed to one available to guests. This was very helpful as we were on an international flight and boarding passes sped up the process.

We went to dinner at a restaurant further up the hill from this hotel that offered fantastic views of Quito then went back to climb, exhausted into bed. Well, another surprise awaited! Our beds were warmed by some method we never quite figured out and we slept comfortably and soundly.

Morning came and it was time for us to leave Quito, but not until we had a beautiful breakfast of fruit, juice, breads and biscuits, omelets and ham or bacon and coffee. What a place to stay. If you go to Quito and miss this one, it's a shame!!

This boutique hotel is the best that I have ever stayed in, without question. The new location of Mansion del Angel is just blocks from Quito Antiguo, or the older section of town where church bells ring and cobblestones fill the streets. It is also close to the artisanal area of downtown Quito called Amazonas where you can find so many different souvenirs that your mind will spin! So with that said, one must remember that you are still in a metropolitan capital city when you leave this precious piece of paradise. If you are a citydweller, keep your wits about you as you would in your own city! If you are a countryman, ask for advice before you venture out and the staff will make sure your outing is the safest and uncomplicated. This is their job and they do it seamlessly!
Mansion del Angel is a majestic vision upon your arrival and as you are guided to your suite, the hardwork and creation of this place will become apparent! The 16 foot celings make for spacious yet dramatic accommodations and the 1st class staff is willing to serve you and oblige with almost any request. The Cafe Bistro (located on the first floor) offers a "made to order" breakfast (that is included in your room charge) and has a nice variety of gourmet plates/entrees for lunch and/or dinner. There are great restaurants in Quito and the concierge/reception desk will be more than happy to make a reservation for you for lunch or dinner (if you do not wish to partake of room service and the fresh gourmet fare at the bistro). If you do wish to partake of a great room service food experience, just read the detailed instruction sheet in your suite and your meal will be brought to you piping hot at your requested time. If you are like me and a seasoned traveler, you will find everything and more that you are looking for in this boutique hotel - affordability, class, fine dining, and superior service. If you just opened the atlas and picked Quito, Ecuador to begin your journey of South America, Boutique Hotel Mansion del Angel should be your starting and ending point. Its warmth, location, and charm will only enhance your overall experience.

We stayed two nights before a week in Galapagos, then another after. With our adult children, we stayed in a total of 4 rooms, all very beautiful (king bed rooms especially). Flowers, sitting rooms, good fixtures, etc. Price in our package was $70 per person per night. Not cheap, but not too bad. Full breakfast included, though due to flights we were unable to take full advantage two of three mornings.

Quito is reputed to be crime-ridden, and the hotel staff encouraged us to use taxis for any excursions, even to the relatively close Centro Historico. We did walk a little in the neighborhood, and it was indeed a little daunting, so se would not do that again. Also, seeing the huge padlock they put on the door overnight was a bit frightening.

On other oddity was that they charge an exorbitant $2.50 per 500ml bottle of water (tap water to be avoided), and water is not included in breakfast! Ended up paying around $30 in water alone - high altitude is very dehydrating. Better to buy your own in larger bottle at some convenience store.

Also, the first morning there was construction outside the hotel as well as some megaphone activity (rally?) outside, very loud. Not what we wanted after a long day of travel.

Not sure we'd choose to hit Quito again, but if so would investigate another hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for a total of 5 nights. It was the most charming hotel I have ever been in. The service is fantastic. They serve tea at 5pm, giving guests a chance to mingle which makes you feel like you are travelling in the 1800's and meeting other travelers. However, if you prefer, you can have the tea in your room too. All of the staff are extremely attentive and the hot water bottle warming the feet area of the bed at night is such a special added treat. There is no limit to the extras this hotel has and it is on the edge of both the touristy area and old town area. Taxis are on the corner and it is very reasonable to anywhere...not even $3 to anything in these two areas. Some may say it is not convenient enough, but truly it is. However the greatest thing is the ambiance of the mansion. You just need to know more history of this place as pictures and paintings of obviously related people are everywhere. It is well worth the stay. I won't stay anywhere else.
