What an amazing hotel this is. We were not expecting the quality that we saw there. We were at the hotel for only a couple of nights, just a layover on our way to a trip to the Amazon rainforest. When Lupe, the very wonderful and friendly front desk person, took us to our room (Room 201), we were blown away by how beautiful the room was. At first we thought that we had entered another well-appointed lobby for the hotel. The room had 2 "living" areas and a beautiful bedroom. The ceilings were at least 14 feet high. There were beautiful pieces of artwork and flowers everywhere in the room.
We have stayed at some of the finest hotels in the world. But, none quite compare with the grandeur and beauty of this hotel.
The only downside of our experience here was the restaurant, which was not bad, but did not live up to the caliber of the hotel.
Regardless, I do not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone. And, if ever I am in Quito again, I will surely stay here without a doubt.

On entering Mansion del Angel, it feels like stepping 100 years back in time to the elegant life of the original owner of the mansion. This mansion has been lovingly restored with enormous bedrooms and baths and fresh flowers in every room - and is efficiently and quietly run by a superb staff. Do you need to leave your bags for a week while traveling elsewhere in Ecuador? No problem. Need directions, taxis, some special need for yourself or your room? No problem. Exhausted after a day of exploring Quito? Enjoy the lovely 5 o'clock tea served in a grand salon, or take a drink out to the garden in back. Just a block off a very busy street, Mansion del Angel is an easy walk to the old town, the Basilica, museums & the central park. But one will need a taxi [shockingly inexpensive] to get to good restaurants and other museums. Breakfasts, served in a sunny atrium, are delicious and offer far more than the usual coffee and pastry. If you don't feel like going out, the hotel restaurant has a modest but tasty menu. Special thanks to Las Senoras Patricia and Lupe for making our stay so enjoyable.

This hotel was the Mercado Mansion, built by tobacco money. It has been restored to opulence that will delight. Every room is different and elegant. My bed was strewn w/ rose petals the first night, there were even rose petals ijn the toilet..

The staff is friendly and helpful, altho' three postcards they were supposed to have mailed never arrived. There is a bistro, that during my stay we had to ourselves, with good food and attentive service. There is a lovely garden in the back. It was a bit too chilly to enjoy it in February. You feel very safe as hotel is behind locked gate, with buzzer for entrance. A very nice touch is tea at five o'clock, with lovely cookies/cakes..served on the elegant first floor landing. You do have to ask tho..

There are some things to be aware of however. The cab drivers do not know where this hotel is..or if they do, they are confounded by the one-way street. Therefore, I recommend that you definitely avail yourself of the airport pick-up service..even tho' it is much more expensive than a cab ..25$ while a cab would be 5-10. Once you get there, the hotel has a card w/ a small map..mark the one-way street and carry it with you to show cab drivers. Of course, as this hotel gets better known, it may be less of a problem.

Also, watch out for the plumbing..the showers are beautifully tiled, and glass door exquisitely etched..but it is poorly designed and prone to flooding. Don't put any thing on the floor while you shower and watch while you do, to see if your shower is filling up and spilling over. Floor should have been recessed and isn't.

Another thing to be aware of is that the hotel has no central heating. They provide electric blankets and on one occasion a warmed brick in the bed. There is also a heater in the bistro. This will not be a concern in the warmer months.

I stayed here five nights overall..and would stay there again. It is an experience. My own house seemed dreary on return

Room Tip: If you are noise sensitive, ask for a back room

Reading previous reviews on Trip Advisor, we chose the Hotel Mansion del Angel. While it is a greatly furnished beautiful old mansion, the location is far from desirable. You are literally far from any sights, restaurants etc. Quito is not a city to walk around in after dark. As a result we ate dinner in the hotel, and dinner was prepared by the bus boy and breakfast by some other hotel employee. The physical setting is beautiful. However the nights are filled with the sounds of traffic or a back room provided the sounds of continual car alarms going off and dogs barking. All this and we paid at least $100. more per night than a Hilton! When we moved rooms to attempt to get a quieter room, we were not accommodated with a decrease in charges either.

Just returned from a trip to Equador and stayed three nights at this property in Quito. Beautiful property. The rooms had great beds, there was a nice outdoors spot for breakfast and the staff were very helpful. it was a nice oasis in a large city.

This is a beautiful hotel and the service is wonderful. Decorated with pseudo antiques, it is gorgeous ! Unfortunately, the location is mediocre and the kitchen is so-so. Don't expect to walk to restaurants or entertainment - the neighborhood is pathetic. AND - don't trust the staff for restaurant recomendations! The mansion is not heated, so bring sweaters! On the plus side, the staff makes up your beds every night and uses either electric blankets or hot water bottles. Ask for a room in the back - front rooms are noisy in the morning!

I just returned from a trip to the Galapagos. We spent 4.5 days at Mansion del Angel on the front and back end of our trip. It's an exquisitely and lovingly-restored property and a feast for the senses. Our rooms were akin to large suites. Large bathrooms had excellent water pressure in showers, hair dryers, fresh flowers, soft (!) towels and all the toiletries one could need. Very comfortable beds, turned down each evening with a hot water bottle or electric blanket (varied by room). Breakfast (included in room rate) was part buffet, part served; freshly-squeezed juices, fabulous scrambled eggs, yogurt, cold cereals, fresh fruit, a variety of breads and pastries; excellent all around. Ditto for afternoon tea. The entire staff was terrific; very helpful, attentive and cheerful. They arranged all of our city transportation in the city and it was also flawless.

I would highly recommend this hotel to any Quito visitor who prefers small, unique hotels with character and personality. Please visit the hotel's web site; my words cannot do justice to the beauty of the property.
