“Back to the 80s”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

If you really love the retro thing and the 80s is your favorite decade...this is definitely your choice. This hotel is old, noisy (alarms in the vicinity sound all night) and the worst for me was the bed... if you like that sensation like your sleeping in concrete...those beds are your thing...my back was terrible during the next day. When I did the check out at 4:30 am the guy at the front desk took 30 minutes to get his act together...no good

We had to get up at 3AM to get to airport by 4 AM. There was not a drop of hot water in the shower. When I checked out the manager said that I should have asked for another room when I knew there was no hot water. Was I supposed to go to front desk in my bathrobe and get another room.

The credit card machine was broken and it took 20 minutes to finally get a charge put on my card. The charge was for dinner. I told him to add it to my account since he had already used my card when I checked in but he could not.

The noise was unbelievable. Based upon reviews for the hotel they must know that the street noise can be heard in the rooms. Then why were we given a room on the second floor? Especially on a Saturday night when every drunk in Quito was outside of the hotel partying and making noise when they were leaving the bars. The hotel was not full they could have put us on a higher floor so that we would be away from the noise. There was no insulation in the windows and the street noise was able to be heard.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

I was in this Hotel for 5 days. it was a nightmare with the service. the food was lousy. at the restaurant they take too long to service. I ask for Ice-Crema and they charge 5 USD. in the other side and ICE-CREAM anf FRUITS is 3 USD. who is the one that asigne price in that hotel. really funny. I you want to rest go to other place. This Hotel is in the Pink zone o Quito and is high noisy. be carefull with the water at the bathroom. it can no regulate the hot and the cool water. really wierd. I almost get burn. besode that at sometime there was not hot water. the wifi is another nightmare there. when u used the password, you have to keep working in your device or younwill lose the conection. I think is from the dinosaurs time. other wise is good to stay.

Rio Amazonas is a good hotel if you are passing through Quito for a couple of days. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cafe downstairs is bright and clean with a good continental breakfast selection. I've stayed there twice. The first time my room was rather small and noisy. The second time it was much nicer with two double beds, floor to ceiling windows and a walk in closet. The hotel is in the tourist area which is dodgy at night. Get a taxi even for a short ride.

Stayed here going to two and from Galapagos, one night each way. Both times we have to leave very early in the morning, but a good breakfast was available. I was impressed. The cafe-restaurant at street level served god food and was good value. It was a bit far from the centre of town to do any exploring when we arrived for an afternoon. But the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was was fine - lots of hot water and good towels. The staff were very helpful and we were able to stor some of our luggage here while we went on to the Galapagos

This is a fairly good hotel. No sign of nature, river nor animals... Good receptionists. Very good English. Bit old fashioned furniture in the rooms. You have a nice view from the top floors if the clouds are gone: you see the volcano right next to you. Pretty well located near tot lively neighbourhood. Okay but not overwhelming.

We stayed here either side of a 10 day Galapogas tour. This is a really nice hotel where everything works as you would and expect. The rooms are spacious and quiet, bathrooms, wifi and AC all perform really well. The place presents a bit corporate customer in style, but it is very tasteful and well kept. Staff are efficient and helpful, especially those on the front desk. English is well spoken, reflecting use of the hotel by tour groups. Breakfast was lovely, the only failing a lack of toaster. They will do really early breakfasts for early plane connections. Wifi is free and works well; they also have a computer room with two PCs that are freely available. It is located in a lively location with heaps of restaurants nearby. It is the Mariscal area which can be unsafe late at night but we had no problems whatsoever walking to and fro places. It is a reasonable $6/7 into the old city and well located for getting to/fro the airport. Overall a really good hotel and great choice for a short stopover in Quito.
