I didn't loved Howard johnson because the rooms were old and hot
the windows doesn't open much and theres no air condiction
the breakfast were nothing but little variety of cheese, ham, and bread, and the reposition of the food almost doesn't existed. On the other hand the location of the hotel is very good, the highest price I've paid for a taxi were 5 american dollars, but if I come back at Quito I'll not return toHoward Johnson

We stayed here one night before going to the Galapagos. The hotel was run down a bit but was clean. There was a restaurant that we ate at that was ok, nothing great. Rooms were average, not great, but not horrid. Bathrooms had wear but were clean. For the price, it was worth the accomodation.

Every year my husband and I volunteer at a school for challenged children in Quito. The past several years we stayed at a very nice hostel. However, there was no room at the inn for us this year. Our stay at Howard Johnson's was an accident and it turned out to be a very pleasant experience.
First of all the hotel staff is very professional. They are warm, friendly and very helpful. I went to the Front Desk to ask for an iron and before I returned to my room there was an iron and small ironing board in the room waiting for me. The staff always greeted us with us smile. I felt as though we were staying at a 5 star hotel the way that they were dressed. They opened the lobby door for us, always ready to serve our needs.
It is a great location. It is 2 blocks from the Jardin Mall. Ther are several nice eating places in the area.
There are 4 high speed computers in the lobby. Free Internet!!!
The American Breakfast Buffett (included )is average, but everything is freshly made. Nice selection of fresh fruit, rolls, cheeses, cerals, and there is always scrambled eggs.
There is 24 hour room service. The menu is nice and reasonably priced. We prefered the room service to the food in the resturaunt. It is a matter of taste.
The rooms were clean! We had a Junior suite. It had a flat screen TV, large bathroom, small refrigerator and 2 double beds. The beds were very comfortable.
They do have a van that will take you to the airport ( which is 10 minutes away).
We payed a lit bit more than what we paid at the hostel we had previously stayed at and felt like this was the best accident that we had ever had.
We plan on staying there next year.

  • Liked — The value for our money.
  • Disliked — The dinner in the resturaunt

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I booked through my agent as a package trip to the galapagos. I had stayed in other howard johnson hotels and my experiences had been negative. First the locations is excellent, walking distance to the mall and the carolina park. I appreciated the free wireless internet, made calls home using laptop and skype. Room was very clean, ample. Breakfast was plentiful and good variety of fruits. I had lunch , and dinner at the restaurant, and I found the prices to be very reasonable, and the service at the restaurant was first rate. I found the staff, very knowledgeable and alway willing to help. Great deal for my money, I would definitely stay here again when visiting Quito

We stayed for 10 days in Quito and used the Howard Johnson near Parque La Carolina as our home base. There were five of us, so we stayed in a junior suite and requested an extra portable single bed to go with the two permanent double beds. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, although they are starting to show their age. There are well over 100 channels on the T.V. You'll recognize most of the shows. There is a refrigerator in each room and a safe.

Our only concerns were related to housekeeping. Our room didn't get made up at all on New Year's Day (which is somewhat understandable), and we returned to our room at 4:00 p.m. on two different days to find the housekeeper finishing the room-tidying duties. (We sat in the lobby and waited both times.) The housekeepers sometimes forgot we had five people in the room, so more than once we had to request extra bath towels.

The main entry is clean, and there are always coffee and tea available. They have free Internet computers near the front desk, and free wireless Internet in the rooms. The clerks at the front desk are extremely professional. They are knowledgeable about the area and were always willing to help us plan/recommend transportation for short excursions within Quito and outside (Otavalo, Mindo, La Mitad del Mundo).

We used the hotel restaurant twice. It has excellent food--both traditional Ecuadorian and American dishes. Don't miss the empenadas. The chef takes pride in the presentation of the food.

The porters were friendly, and they immediately assisted us in getting taxi cabs. They showed us how to get to the Trole' and bus lines (about 3 blocks each). Trust them.

The El Jardin shopping mall is a block away. It has an upscale SuperMaxi grocery store, so we bought doughnuts, fruit, snacks, and 5-liter jugs of water there and brought them back to the room. We even ate lunch at the mall food court one day when we were craving American fast food.

The Parque La Carolina is across the street to the east. It's pretty, and it's a nice place to stroll during the day. The neighborhood feels safe. We had no concerns for our safety.

Some of the best restaurants are in the Mariscal area. Use a taxi for transportation. It only costs $1 (with meter) or $2 ("meter is broken").

  • Liked — Friendly staff. Location near park, mall, public transportation.
  • Disliked — Housekeeping service sometimes forgot we had a party larger than two. We had to request more towels, soap, water, etc.

This hotel is very clean, the rooms are a good size, It has a small bar with some computers if you want to check your e-mail. The restaurant has a very good selection of Ecuadorian food and breakfast is usually included in your room rate. The hotel staff is very helpfull. It's location is excellent. It is close to the airport,a block away from the Parque Carolina and a block away from the mall El Jardin. At the reception you can ask for an executive taxi that can take you to tour Otavalo, Ibarra, or the surrounding area of Quito. We have stayed here atleast on three different occasions and have not been disappointed yet.
