“Ecuador Tren”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

This was a great way of travelling up to Latacunga for only $10. However it was cloudy on the day we travelled, so we did not see much of the Avenue of the Volcanoes! However the guide was good, spoke good English, and it is a nice gentle way of travelling compared to the mayhem on the buses. However please be aware it takes a while! Usually fully booked on a weekend, go on a thursday or friday, then you should be fine.

“Amazing, even for non-train-lovers”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Needs to be booked well in advance (you choose seats and car there) and plan in advance to arrive to the station on time (I take Trole from the Northern station to Chimbacalle) -- guides are superb, english is not the best but they will certainly make a lot of efforts, landscape is great and the experience of riding an historic train.

“Relaxation on iron”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Take a slow, swaying clickety-clacking trip through the mountainous terrain. Pretty inexpensive and comes with bilingual tour guide. See the back country and sample some of the local foods.

Don't expect to be fed ON the train, but each station usually has something.

The trip is not exciting at times, and many took a little snooze. Great views of the volcanoes, farms and valleys. Many wave as you pass through. Wave back. You made their day.

“A great Day Trip, Not to be Missed.”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

This Tour was great. I found out about this trip on Travel Adisor Forum and contacted the Tren Ecuador employee who posted.
We took a Taxi to the Station, arriving just in time (heavy traffic). The staff was very helpful in getting our tickets and getting to the Train. We opted for the Plus level to El Boliche.

The sights along the way were great. The Guide for our trip was Jacqueline Prerez, she was outgoing and impressive in the attention given to the kids on the train.
She ran contests and awarded prizes to the kids.

El Boliche was a great stop, we saw Llamas and walked a trail.

It was very interesting to see the people along the way taking pictures of the train as we passed along the route. They all smiled and waved.

“Highly recommended trip, a great day out.”
Reviewed April 4, 2012

We took the Quito-Boliche-Quito trip, Feb 19, 2012. It was excellent, the train is first class. The views are stunning. The staff are very good. On this trip we were possibly the only non spanish speaking passengers, but the staff made sure we knew what was going on. The dancers at Machachi station were a pleasant surprise. This was one of the many highlights of our trip to Ecuador. Do not miss it.
