“Lovely Hotel in Historic Quito”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

La Casa de la Ronda is a really special place, in the center of the oldest part of Quito's historic district, and in an area that feels really safe and well-suited to tourists while still having a lot of authenticity. If you're trying to get a cab there, though, it can be difficult as "La Ronda" is a historic street closed to cars, so what you want to do is have them get to La Ronda, near Santo Domingo, where you walk down a small hill and find the entrance to the hotel slightly down La Ronda, your first left. The staff are really excellent and all speak English really well should you need it, and the rooms are delightful, with lovely hand-carved furniture and modern, stylish elements that didn't detract from the historic feel. The housekeeping is impeccable. Throughout my 3-night stay the staff went above and beyond to make my time there pleasant. There were only two downsides: First, the restaurant is really poor. The prices are high and the food is mediocre at best; you have to ask for service generally, since the staff are often tasked with other things in parallel (like amazing guest service in the lobby.) But, the restaurant falls by the wayside. I was also a little annoyed by the sales/marketing manager, who at first seemed really friendly but quickly became overbearing with well-meaning advice. I was recovering from food poisoning on arrival, and she lectured me for 20 minutes on what I should be eating, why drinking water wasn't okay & I needed Gatorade, and a lot of other things that just don't work for me for more reasons than I was willing to explain in the lobby. I tried to cut the conversation short by saying I was really fine, but it was the arrival of the cab I'd been waiting on that finally freed me from the lecture. I wouldn't mention it, but she did the same thing to several others while I was there, lecturing some ladies on why they shouldn't drive, and arguing with them when they said they understood but disagreed. They seemed kind of annoyed, and it definitely disturbed my dinner. She's really a kind lady, I think, and means well, but might consider toning the mothering down a little for "young people" like myself (almost 40...) She speaks English perfectly but doesn't always realize when her guests are fluent in Spanish and would prefer to speak it. I spoke to her for at least an hour in total, in both Spanish and English, but then she told the taxi driver that I didn't speak Spanish (!) which might have been insulting if he didn't think it was totally hilarious.

Beautiful hotel in the old part of the city. Only con a long way from the airport. Rooms are modern with the old town feel. A bit of a walk but well worth it. Food is average but lots of resteraunts close by,

Beautiful little hotel. Very old building on La Ronda, but immaculately restored. Your cabbie will have a hard time finding it, as Calle Morales is only accessible by foot. Staff is excellent, and they speak fluent English. Food was good. Good water pressure in shower. Nice bed.

My family and I (7 people total) recently enjoyed a fantastic time at La Casona de la Ronda. It is perfectly situated in old town Quito, easy walking distance to many sites. The hotel is very, very charming, from the moment you walk in. The guest rooms are all very comfortable, bright, and beautiful. Breakfast was also perfect. And, while the hotel property itself is excellent, what made our visit so memorable was the exceptional staff. Every member that we encountered was friendly, enthusiastic, and very helpful -- Karla, Lauriane, Maria, and Aurelio were the ones with whom we dealt with most frequently, and they were superb. The night life, shops, and cafes just adjacent to the hotel are all part of the charm. I highly recommend this hotel and its exceptional staff.

Room Tip: Two things to watch for, though: first, the hotel is on a pedestrian street, so pre-arranging taxis...

This converted old town house has been made into a delightful hotel. Double wooden doors open straight off La Ronda, into a covered courtyard, with a small reception, lounge and eating area as well as a PC with printer facilities for boarding cards. There is also free, fast wifi. The staff are friendly and helpful. The 22 bedrooms are set round Balconies above the courtyard. We stayed on three occasions between trips and each room was similarly furnished with very comfortable king sized beds, firm pillows and crisp bedding. Bathrooms are modern with good products, hot showers, fluffy towels and a good hairdryer. A minor niggle that the plugs didn't work in the three bathrooms (though I'm sure would have been fixed had I remembered to mention it). The breakfast was good- fresh fruit, cereals, scrambled egg, bacon and sausages. Breads and jams, fresh coffee and assorted teas plus fruit juices, milk and yoghourts. We also had two dinners which were delicious. Overall highly recommended.

Room Tip: The hotel is right on La Ronda which can be noisy thurs-saturday, so ask for a room at the side or b...

After a stressful day of traveling, when I finally arrived at the hotel and walked into the lobby, I was greeted like a long lost relative. Immediately my bags were taken, I was ushered to a seat and offered a much needed glass of wine. I was introduced to all of the staff from the maid to the receptionist to the chef (everyone was was so genuinely nice and personable). The attentiveness of all of the staff to each and every guest was endearing. The hotel itself is conveniently located on a safe, historic, pedestrian only street in the heart of old town. There are plenty of shops and restaurants located near by (although I highly recommend the hotel restaurant as everything I ate was delicious). The hotel is charming and the rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. The bed was huge and the shower was heavenly. I would definitely stay here again so I highly recommend anyone else visiting Quito to stay here.

Stayed in the hotel on two occasions during my honeymoon to Ecuador. The staff is great and very helpful !!!!! There were several mix ups with our pre arranged tours but the staff at the La Casona de La Ronda Hotel went above and beyond to help us figure out the problem.

The restaurant is a bit expensive for dinner could get a better value at a near by restaurant. During our stay did not have any problem with noise and stated in other reviews. Being directly on La Ronda street offered some great views of the Saturday night entertainment. Most of the city highlights for the Old Town are within walking distance to the hotel. I would suggest this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in the Old Town
