Everything about this hotel is lovely. The view from our room was fantastic. Our room was large, well appointed, very comfortable, and the bathroom equally fantastic. The staff were all friendly, helpful, and always greeted us with a smile. Dinner in the hotel was phenomenal.

We stayed here for 2 nights before our week long cruise of the Galapagos Islands. It has a great location in the old colonial part of the city. The hotel is lovely - a superb staff and wonderful rooms. Our room was spacious with a very large bath that included a great walk-in shower. The bed linens were comfy and luxurious. Our room faced out over the atrium. I'm not sure if it was charming to hear the church bells peal at 5am, 5:45am and 6am. Each night there was fresh local fruit (with an explanation of what it was) and wonderful pastries. YUM! I truly enjoyed both. The breakfast buffet is terrific with made to order omlettes and plenly of local fruits. We had dinner here once, and frankly the menu was less than stellar. We ended up just doing appetizers and we each had a plain old gin martini. Not even a call brand. WOW - be prepared for a $16.00+ charge for ONE drink. We coudln't believe over $32.00 for our "adult" beverages.

We had the pleasure of staying at the CASA GANGOTENA from May 17-19, 2013. The hotel is ideally situated right on the Plaza San Francisco, easily accessible to many of the famous old churches and a great place to wander the streets.
The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. Excellent buffet breakfast. Charming and helpful service.

We stayed at the Casa Gangotena for 3 nights as our first stop on a tour of South America. It was an enjoyable and comfortable stay which set us up physically and mentally for the rest of our holiday.

The new Quito airport opened in February and, as yet and for some time ahead, the road system to enable travellers to transfer to and from the centre of the city has not yet been constructed. On our arrival from Europe at around 6:00pm on a Friday night it took just over 2 hours to reach the city centre. Our departure to the Galapagos was early morning and we left the Casa Gangotena at 7:15am and it still took us 1 1/4 hours to reach the airport.

However the Casa Gangotena greeted us warmly with a friendly and very efficient check-in that included a marvellous glass of chilled fruit juice - much appreciated. It is beautifully located in one corner of the Plaza San Francisco in a very attractive and prominent colonnial building that has been marvellously redesigned as a hotel. We had a Plaza Suite that overlooked the bustle and activity of this historic and beautiful square. The constantly changing scene was fascinating and we were never bothered by any noise from the square excepting one firework display that was very much worth watching. The hotel is a great starting place for a walking tour of the attractions of central Quito.

Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable with all the equipment expected of a 5 Star hotel. The bed was King-sized and we slept extremely well in it.

The public rooms - reception, lounge, patio, library, restaurant - were all very attractive and we were mightily impressed by the gorgeous flower arrangements - full of magnificent roses. The staff were extremely friendly speaking English, being attentive and helpful at all times. We enjoyed our breakfasts where there was a great choice. We only ate in the Restaurant on one night and were happy with the service but found the menu and meal OK but not special. What was special, however, were the afternoon teas served from 4:00pm - which were truly outstanding and served in the best traditions of an English Country House.

We would highly recommend the Casa Gangotena.

We returned to this historical building three times during our trip of Ecuador. Each stay was brilliant and we can´t praise the hotel enough. The building was renovated with much attention to detail and is almost unbelievably beautiful - and from the big hall where the afternoon tea is served to the rooms tastefully decorated. The restaurant is first rate, buffet breakfast ist delicious and far from the standard fare. The view from the rooftop terrace of the Plaza San Francisco and the old town is breathtaking - day and night. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful - always making us welcome.

Don´t miss this hotel if you plan to visit Quito. A bit pricey but worth every penny!

There is a reason this hotel has over 100 5-star ratings and only two 4-star ratings (and none below that). These guys should teach courses to luxury hotel chains on incredible service, because despite staying at hotels that cost several times more than our room at Casa Gangotena, we have never encountered service that paralleled this hotel. They truly blew us away at every turn. Their attention to detail and thought that went into everything was just amazing - so much so that I feel compelled to share some specific examples.

1. My husband wanted to find an ATM. We were somewhat concerned about wandering Quito to find one, so he inquired at the front desk. We were not only directed to the nearest one, but offered a staff escort to walk us there and back.

2. For dinner one night, we wanted to go visit La Ronda, a street that is a few blocks from Casa Gangotena. It had been highly recommended to us. The hotel again offered to have a staff member walk us there so that we didn't get lost - something we took them up on - and provided us with umbrellas in case it rained. They told us when we were ready to come home, we should simply call the front desk and they'd send a staff member over to meet us and walk us back - which was great as well. But what really blew me away was they provided us with a hotel cell phone, pre-programmed with the front desk number, so that we did not have to worry about finding a phone or using ours internationally. They had thought through all the details and removed any potential problems, making this a wonderful, stress-free evening for us.

3. On the last night my husband and I had dinner reservations, but we were exhausted so we called down to the front desk to ask them to cancel the reservations for us. The front desk asked if everything was okay, and my husband said, 'Yes, my wife is just feeling a little under the weather.' They immediately asked if we wanted them to call a doctor for us to come to the room - again, they thought of everything (I was just exhausted).

Every single staff member we encountered was friendly, professional, welcoming, and helpful. They seemed to genuinely love Casa Gangotena and Quito and wanted to share their enthusiasm for it with their guests. If we return to Quito I would ONLY stay at Casa Gangotena - no matter what they charged, I'd feel it was a great value if the service was the same as what we experienced on this first visit, and I feel confident that it would be given the dozens of other reviews that echo our sentiments. Stay at Casa Gangotena; you will not regret it!

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Gangotena from the moment we walked in the door. The hospitality of all the staff was wonderful. It is located on the Plaza of the historical section of town, so easily accessible to many of the famous old churches and a great place to wander the streets. We ate at the restaurant for dinner which was terrific food, and lunch on the patio was serene and excellent. We highly recommend this place.
