Used Ideal South America for our Peru-Galapagos trip and had the best experience. Given the remote locations, I decided someone in-the-know could plan this better than me. Sure enough, Ideal South America did it wonderfully! All our flights, airport pickups and suggested itineraries were mapped out with precision. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. We couldn't have been happier with this trip.

We (family of 4) traveled with Vaya Adventures on an Ocean Spray catamaran to the Galapagos Islands. The staff and guide were the worst. For example: night one at our welcome event: we were told to meet in the lounge at 7pm. All travelers were present at that time. Staff arrived around 7:15 with cocktails in hand telling us our welcome cocktails were on the way. We heard a crash, and then were told the crash was our welcome drinks. It was clear the staff had been drinking! Our guide, Harry, was rude. On hikes, he was way ahead of all travelers, never waiting for us, and practically giving his spiel to no one. When we snorkled Harry took off without letting us know any plan. On one snorkeling trip he simply disappeared. All of us ended up standing up in shallow water, which was devastating to us knowing we were not respecting the environment. After repeatedly telling us "how" to respect the environment (do not touch any animal or coral or stand up on the ocean floor), Harry caught a puffer fish, terrorizing the poor thing by brining it around to all to see and touch. The staff were on their cell phones all the time. Adid, the housekeeper, and the chef seemed to be the only true workers on the cruise. The food was delicious. We would NOT recommend this cruise.

great itinerary but poor boat and unfriendly staff.

yate golondrina & yate fragata: they welcome you at the airport with "Golondrina, the best ship in Galapagos". right after boarding you notice that it is far the worst ship around.
why? the ship would need a general refurbishment. the last one has been in 2004, this seams also to be the last time that it has been cleaned. sheets have not been changed between the last passengers in board, blood an dirt on sheets and towels.
well, it is a basic ship, you know it before, but even for basic I await cleanliness and cleaning service for the bathroom every day. unfortunately it never happened in 8 days.
beach towels have been provided in the first 2 days only, they took them away and never replaced them.
staff: friendliness is not given at all. also the service is basic basic and they do not make any effort on giving a bit more, even not when asking.

food: after 6 days we ran out of milk, and the food started to be a "weeks review".
eggs every morning, stroganoff without taste every night, potatoes and rice with every meal. all meals taste the same (lame).

guide: seems to have an OK knowledge about wildlife and the islands, but due to language barriers he is not sharing properly. but he was able to answer almost all our questions. also he does his job but not giving more effort on giving us a good time.

iternary: the islands we saw, the nature and wildlife was great and a once in a lifetime experience! the variation of walking and snorkeling was great but always in the group. the tour seams to be one of the best offered for galapagos. if you focus only on this you can handle the boat, but it is hard though. I am usually absolutely ok with low standard, but this was too much!
all together I would highly recommend to spend a few 100 $ more and get on a better boat. also you should do a catamaran, as the sea gets very rough and keeps you from good sleep.

When shopping for the perfect Galapagos/Machu Picchu vacation you MUST contact Max at Ideal South America. His suggestions and itinerary were spot on for the adventure our family was seeking. He is professionsl, courteous and responds quickly to any questions or concerns. The Galapagos and Machu Picchu is an aggressive itinerary for a limited time frame, but he worked out a schedule and quote that allowed us to experience all of what we wanted and more. The islands don't need any recommendations, they and Machu Picchu are gifts of nature and history. It's the tour company that ensures you have the experience of a lifetime, free of hassles and stress, so that all you need do is enjoy. Max and IdealSA are the best bet for that experience.

A marvelous experience. The Islands with the various animals and plant life are amazing. Going on the Celebrity Expedition enhanced the experience as this was first class travel.Everything was well planned with an excellent staff and great guides, There are no negatives to report.
