Metropolitan Touring was our operator in Ecuador. First thing, we arrived from Peru, having used Condor Travel, and Condor IS a 5 star operator; Metropolitan is not! Metropolitan is 4 star sometimes and 3 star others. Peruvians are open, friendly, interested, kind and wonderful. Ecuadorians are not all tourism-welcoming and it shows. The HIGH points of our time with Metropolitan: ROBERTO, our guide who met us in Quito and got us situated in our hotel, and who took us on our Quito day tour. Roberto is fabulous, interesting, smart, knows his history, he's worldy, and clearly loves his job. If you are lucky, you will find Roberto in Quito, good luck. MARGOTH FREIRE, our guide for one of our days in Galapagos. We got lucky and had a full day on Santa Cruz with Margoth, and found her again in Quito. Margoth is the smartest guide we had in Peru or Ecuador, she is amazing, and we wish her best of luck with her new boutique, Lovely Islands in Puerto Ayora. Margoth made our Darwin Station & Twin Craters experience world-class. We will forever remember that day, and what we learned. Galapagos is a better place for having her as a representative. The LOW points of our time with Metropolitan: their drivers are generally lazy and surly, don't expect anything here, they never offer to help with bags, and claim to only speak Spanish, which is clearly not the case. Metropolitan uses a wide variety of vehicles, some are fine, others are old an uncomfortable. Make sure you take your own water. Some of the Metropolitan guides are just ok, some not. Mario in Galapagos is lazy and uninteresting. The only thing that saves days with him is that the yacht crew for day trips is generally very nice and they do everything he does not. You pay a lot for Metropolitan's services, and you have choices. Make sure you voice your opinions, and request the guides you want. If you do this, you will greatly enhance your time & money spent, and although some Metropolitan employees are clearly bored with their jobs and arrogant as well, you do not have to waste time with them. Metropolitan would be wise to have Roberto and Margoth train their guides, they have infectious intelligence and energy, and they made our trip to Ecuador so much more than it might have been.
