“Great hostel in the Mariscal Sucre district”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our stay. The rooms we clean and comfortable and our hosts Yolanda and Carlos made use feel at home. The breakfast was made to order and fantastic. There is WiFi access in the rooms and a computer available as well. The showers and bathroom is shared, however, there are only four rooms per floor and there was never a time when the bathroom was in use by other guests. It should be noted that we are in our 50's and hostels aren't just for young adults. We want to thank our hosts for their hospitality and we would recommend this location to any of our family or friends.

We stayed here a total of six days. Four and the start of our three week trip to Equador. Again after returning from the Galapagos and once more after 3 days in Banos.

Yolanda responds promptly to email correspondence in preparation for your stay. That was very important to us.

John and Sharon Wilson
We miss them already.

Room Tip: We had the matrimonial suite on the first floor.

This hostal has basic amenities (shared bathroom, no garden), but is squeaky clean and centrally located (only a couple of blocks from the Zona Rosa with its restaurants and bars). The neighborhood seems to be fairly safe, the hostal itself very safe (with locked courtyard).

We enjoyed the hospitality of Yolanda who received us very late and gave us sandwiches and drinks. She only speaks Spanish, but explains slowly and patiently - so you'll be able to understand even if you just know basics of the language. Highly recommended!

Carlos is a terrific host. Met us at UIO on time and took our bags. The downfall is the bathroom is shared. But that's normal for a hostel. Breakfast was wonderful . The ride is treacherous to get there that's all.

Carlos and Yolanda run a very lovely hostel in the trendy part of Quito. Short walk to restaurants and about a half hour walk to the old section of town. Carlos will meet you at the airport and help arrange tours and onward transport. The breakfast is great - a full breakfast all the coffee, drinking water you want and nicely presented. The accommodations are clean and welcoming, lots of warm water. The building is very secure. All in all good value and a great choice in Quito.

The hotel arranged for someone to pick us up from the airport when we arrived in Quito. The owner Yolanda helped us alot. She drove us to the bus station personally and gave us good information on what bus to take to Otavalo. Her sons Cesar and Carlos were also very helpful because they spoke english and gave us good information. We stayed 3 nights when we first arrived in Ecuador and also spent our last night with them. Carlos took us to the new airpot at 4am. The hotel was clean, and the breakfast was good everyday. The coffee was the best I had during my 18 day vacation. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a safe, comfortable place to stay. I plan on staying here again next year when I go back to Ecuador.

Room Tip: I think the rooms upstairs are quieter.

Hostal Tambuca has no rooms with private bathroom. The price is 32 $ which mysteriously increased to 36 $ + tax when I was going to pay. You can get a room with private bath for half that price in Quito. They offer transport to the airport for 12 $ which is the double price of a taxi with a meter. The worst in my opinion is that you can not get a key to the port and are dependent on a remote opening after pressing a bell - which does not work every time.
Rooms are clean and the breakfast is OK.
The many positive remarks must have come from friends of the hosts.
