Achiote is a gem in the middle of Gringolandia, aka Mariscal. This restaurant features traditional Ecuadorian dishes like ceviches and hornado with great presentation. It's a step up from many similar restaurants.
This small restaurant has a relaxed ambiance with huge windows to watch the people passing by. There's a live tree growing in the middle of the dining room.
The menu is full of exciting dishes like fritada, soups, and even cuy. We had crab ceviche and hornado with a side order of chocolate rice. All of it was delicious and beautifully presented.
The service was very good with English available if necessary!
There's an extensive wine list too. This restaurant caters to gringos; it's clear with higher than average prices. The prices are worth it for an excellent and romantic dinner.
