“A Good Choice for Quito”
Reviewed May 16, 2012

If you like small, well run hotels with charm and modern amenities then look no further. The Anahi is conveniently located to restaurants, a short taxi ride to the old city and the staff are polite and helpful. First timers to Quito please note, after dusk please take taxis wherever you go (even if its a few blocks away) and hold onto your iPhones! My husband 'lost' his within hours of arriving.

We stayed there on our way to and from the Galapagos. Unfortunately we didn't get to spend a lot of time there as we arrived in late afternoon and departed early in the morning both times. The rooms were great. We had a larger one with a nice balcony on the second visit. Both the day and night clerks were very helpful on the first visit arranging to keep one of our bags and getting us a take away breakfast. We had a nice drink and dinner in the hotel on our first visit. We had no theft issues. The second visit was on a Sunday night when the restaurant was closed. Again the night clerk was helpful recommending the near by Mare Nostrom Restaurant and having the bell man walk us there. He also arranged for a 5 AM taxi to the airport at a fair rate. We would stay there again.

We looked forward to staying here in January after reading good reviews on Trip Advisor. We were told that they would hold some of our luggage while we were in the Galapagos Islands since we would be returning to the hotel after our cruise. We left a suitcase with our warm weather clothes and a shopping bag with 3 hats we had purchased in Otavalo market. On return to the hotel and unpacking our belongings that had been stored we were missing a pair of shoes and one of the 3 hats we had bought. The staff claimed to have looked at their security cameras and spoken to the staff and that they were not responsible for our loss and were unapologetic. It was apparent to us that someone had walked off with our belongings perhaps in a shopping bag or wearing the shoes and hat! The location is great, the rooms were very nice but I would NEVER stay here again.

We stayed at the Anahi both before and after a trip to the Galapagos Islands. The front desk was exceptionally helpful with wake-up calls, arranging carry-out breakfasts, directions to attractions and even negotiating with cab drivers about cag fare and destinations (we do not speak Spanish and they spoke good English). We stayed in the Coco Room, the least expensive in the hotel, and it was roomy, clean, very well decorated though the plug in the 2nd sink was not working. The breakfast was included in the room rate. This meal was pleasant, very Ecuadorian with empanadas, local fruit and eggs to order. Our room had bottled water though that was unnecessary, the tap water was fine. Cab fare to the airport was between $7-$8, depending on the time of day and the drive took between 15-30 minutes depending on traffic. We had no problems with crime in the area of the hotel, Mariscal, but we did take precautions like using a cab for a 5 block walk in 11 pm.

We usually stay at 4-5 star hotels in our travels, both domestic and abroad. The Anahi is a gem, a quiet small hotel with excellent service and room quality. If you are looking for an big American-style hotel, look elsewhere, but if you want a comfortable and safe experience with a taste for Quito, check the Anahi out.

Room Tip: The higher priced rooms may have street-side windows that allow street noise to enter the room, the...

Unnfortunately the restaurant was closed on a sunday evening when we arrive and the receptionist was less than helpful about advising alternative places to eat, however the rooms were very comfortable, clean, quiet and beautifully decorated. The day staff were more than helpful and breakfast was good. an enjoyable stay in one of the nicest rooms I have stayed in

Our travel agent booked us here for 2 nights before and 1 night after our week long cruise on the Manatee Amazon Explorer on the Napo River. The rooms were spacious and impeccably clean. We had the Inca room which had an outside veranda and the Bamboo room. The hotel is on a side street so noise was not a problem, and there was a 24 hour security guard. Breakfast had the normal buffet offerings and you could order an omelet. There is an onsite restaurant we didn't try, because just a few blocks walk is a square with many bar and restaurant choices. We were able to leave a piece of luggage with our winter gear at the hotel and collected it for the trip home. Free internet access in the business center. Be sure to check out the lounge/observation room on the top floor where there is complimentary coffee and tea. Our only negative is that they failed to tell us about it when we checked in and only found it just before leaving. The staff was very pleasant and spoke good English. All in all a very pleasant stay!

I went to this hotel, this is a very nice hotel, nicely decorated, but the food and the restaurant service was terrible. I had a patatoe soup was burnt, the sandwiche was very low quality, all supermarket bought to the quality of the hotel. The hot chocolate was watered down and the tapas had been sitting around. Yeah this a great place to stay but not to eat. The restaurant next door was much better, they had great fresh, gourmet, well prepared food.
