We stayed here for three nights in early February. This is a small boutique hotel formed from a former mansion, containing six rooms, a dining room (currently for breakfast only), a floor devoted to quiet lounging. Three rooms are located on the second and third floors, with the fourth floor serving as the owner's residence. There is no elevator. We found the room we stayed large and quiet, with a smallish but adequate bathroom, and comfortable bed.
We enjoyed the more than adequate breakfasts which start with a fresh fruit juice or smoothie, cooked to order eggs and warm delicious breads/croissants.
What set this hotel apart from other boutiques was the incredibly friendly and helpful service by the staff. My wife's luggage was lost for three days and the staff, including the owner, were most helpful in interacting with the airline, arranging for forward flights, and even offering a doctor's assistance (the owner's son-in-law) for needed prescriptions.
The hotel is most convenient to the main square in Old Quito, only a few blocks away. Old Quito is easy to navigate, and safe given the large number of patrolling policemen.
We would stay again at this hotel were we to return to Quito and highly recommend it.

The name Jose Jaime Ortiz was all but lost as the architect of Casa San Marcos until archives discovered in recent years revealed the hand behind the craftsmanship. Ortiz is now recognized as one of Quito's most formidable architects from the turn of the 18th century and is credited with a dozen structures in Quito including the El Sagrario Church, the reconstruction of La Merced Church, and the tower of Santo Domingo Church. ... more less
