We arrived at Casa San Marcos after a week in the jungle ready for a sumptuous stay being spoilt with a little extra luxury. We weren't disappointed. Our room was lovely and very comfortable and he location perfect. The bed and linen especially comfy. But I was particularly impressed with all the staff and Mayra the owner who was delightful and welcoming and concerned for my partner who was ill when we arrived. Mayra generously invited me to join her for a wander with fab commentary around the city with a family which was great while my partner slept. Also the gallery has some stunning paintings and the house is filled with gorgeous rare pieces for sale and I came away with two purchases one from each that I love!

Room Tip: Our room on third level had the bathroom combined which suited us but may not suit all if you are mo...

This is the definition of boutique hotel. Staying here is like being a guest in an art collector’s grand home.

We stayed in two different rooms, both were spacious, well appointed and decorated with flair. Exploring the hotel was an experience in itself, with magnificent rooms, a wonderful view and gorgeous Ecuadorian roses everywhere, which are every bit as beautiful as they say.

Casa San Marcos is perfectly located for the Old Town. As we like architecture and culture, this was the right choice for us. We could walk to almost everything we wanted to see.

But what makes this place so lovely is the staff. It was almost as though they could not do enough for us. We had an emergency and the team at Casa San Marcos ran around for us, for example, arranging for the printing of a large number of important documents. They helped us change our booking without any quibble or hesitation. I could not have felt more relieved or welcome.

I almost don’t want to tell people about this place because it will become too popular. I cannot recommend it enough.

Room Tip: We stayed in two rooms (on different visits). The first was on the higher floor at the back. It ha...

Beautiful, historic building filled with antique furnishings and adorned with 18th and 19th century paintings. Even so, my children (8 and 7) were welcome and loved the place. The staff was very helpful and Mayra, the owner, was particularly gracious. The combination of the Panecillo Deluxe (for my wife and I) and El Altillo (for our kids) worked out very well.

Room Tip: El Altillo has three single beds, a great place for kids and just up a flight of stairs from the Pan...

After extensive travel in South America, staying in places ranging from "adequate" to "boring" to "faux luxury", we finally struck gold. All the reviews say it. We affirm. Don't bother looking further unless, for some strange reason, you don't care for perfection.

This is just the best title I have seen on our commentaries, it is exactly what our clients express when they arrive to our home. That and WOW! That make us very happy, but we are happier when you are quite satisfied with the service we provide during your stay.. Thank you very much for your wonderful review. Please come back again. Mayra

My husband and two children (21,15) stayed here from 24th to 26th July..we were all swept away. The hotel is located behind a rather anonymous door in a street in the old town, with views on one side over to the Virgin of Quito and, on the other side, over to the Old Town and volcano. The rooms are out of this world...beautifully appointed, spacious, simply the most comfortable beds ever. The staff are ever-smiling and nothing is too much trouble. The entire house is like an art gallery with the most exquite paintings, sculptures and antiques with Beethoven played softly in the background (but SO not in an intrusive or "look at us" way!) Breakfast is delightful served in an open terrace with a wood-burning stove...beautifully decorated with hanging baskets, flowers and lovely arrangements on the tables. What just bloew me away however was the huge ball arrangement of roses as you enter the building and the plates or rose petals as you descend to breakfast. I don't have a word to say against this place and wish them every success. This is what a boutique hotel should be like - this is how service should be across the world. i LOVED it!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Geranios I and II which both have a geranium on the key ring....talk about attention to...

Casa San Marcos was is a beuatiful colonial home and now museum and hotel in Old Town Quito. The rooms were lovely and spacious. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The meals were excellent as well as the company of the owner Mayra. The hotel is walking distance from many of the sites in Old Town. It is an hour or longer to the new airport. You may think your cab driver is lost as you travel up the mountain on winding cobblestone streets but you're not. The hotel is worth the drive.

Thank you very much for your lovely review. You are right, the airport is just one hour (now) in the future it will be less time after they finish the bridge they are building and happily next year it will put in use, that will save us 30 minutes as the airport from the Historical Center is only 12 kilometers away. That will make our Hotel the closest to the airport, as we have three ways of reaching the airport. Besides that the Historical Center is the more secure place to be. Our neighborhood is the safest, as it is a neighborhood where still the old families live, with small stores, and all the services you could require.

Thank you for appreciating our way of life and our service at the hotel. Best wishes, Mayra

What an amazing place. Imagine having a drink at the cosy fireplace between beautiful antiques and art, then a lovely dinner with view at the Pandecilla and then dreaming the night away in your own 'museum' room. Our only regret is that we had just one night left to spend in this beautiful small hotel!

Casa San Marcos, a house of treasures Publicado el 10/Noviembre/2011 | 14:51By LANCE BRASHEAR on the Miami HeraldCasa San Marcos - a boutique hotel along what is slowly becoming a cultural corridor in central Quito - was, until recently, a house obscured by time. But the passage of time has a way of not just hiding treasures, but also revealing them when the right person comes along. The name Jose Jaime Ortiz was all but lost as the architect of Casa San Marcos until archives discovered in recent years revealed the hand behind the craftsmanship. Ortiz is now recognized as one of Quito's most formidable architects from the turn of the 18th century and is credited with a dozen structures in Quito including the El Sagrario Church, the reconstruction of La Merced Church, and the tower of Santo Domingo Church. ... more   less
