Casa San Marcos was is a beuatiful colonial home and now museum and hotel in Old Town Quito. The rooms were lovely and spacious. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The meals were excellent as well as the company of the owner Mayra. The hotel is walking distance from many of the sites in Old Town. It is an hour or longer to the new airport. You may think your cab driver is lost as you travel up the mountain on winding cobblestone streets but you're not. The hotel is worth the drive.

Thank you very much for your lovely review. You are right, the airport is just one hour (now) in the future it will be less time after they finish the bridge they are building and happily next year it will put in use, that will save us 30 minutes as the airport from the Historical Center is only 12 kilometers away. That will make our Hotel the closest to the airport, as we have three ways of reaching the airport. Besides that the Historical Center is the more secure place to be. Our neighborhood is the safest, as it is a neighborhood where still the old families live, with small stores, and all the services you could require.

Thank you for appreciating our way of life and our service at the hotel. Best wishes, Mayra

What an amazing place. Imagine having a drink at the cosy fireplace between beautiful antiques and art, then a lovely dinner with view at the Pandecilla and then dreaming the night away in your own 'museum' room. Our only regret is that we had just one night left to spend in this beautiful small hotel!

I went with my family and we had a great time, the food was delicious and we even asked for some italian dishes, they were awesome! I also loved the service, the staff was very nice with my kids, they talked with them in many languages! in Europe all the boutique hotels are only hotels but in Casa San Marcos we found a real boutique hotel, there's also a gallery and you can find antiques too! i strongly recommend the cappuccino and the espresso, can't wait to come back there!!

Thank you so much for your review. Certainly everyday we try to make that our kitchen serve the best and fresher food. We keep on trying new ways to present our newest recipes and reduce the amount of spices, so that they are easier to digest . Recently one our shrimp and coconut recipes won a Washington Post prize.

We thank you so much for patronizing us. It was a pleasure to meet you and serve you. Best wishes, Mayra

We came here on honeymoon and I can honestly say that it was the most beautiful hotel; and had the best service of anywhere we have stayed before or since. Mayra and her team are elegantly understated and nothing phased them. We returned from a few days in the Amazon scruffy and trailing various bits of luggage (sorry), while a private party was being held in the art gallery downstairs. Mayra simply greeted us with a warm smile and chatted with us about our trip.

We stayed in two different rooms and both were beautiful, furnished with a fascinating collection of artworks and antiques. It was a pleasure just to be in the communal parts of the building, such as the living room. The food was so good that it took a bit of a push on our parts to go out and eat elsewhere. And the view from our room onto the hills of Quito....

Thank you so much to everyone at Casa San Marcos and apologies for a late review.

Your beautiful home in Quito. We stayed two nights in and one night out during a Galapgos trip. Mayra (owner) set us up with a driver to meet us at the airport on each leg of the trip, Pablo was wonderful and pointed out city features along the way. We had arranged a day tour (Pajonal Tours) and enjoyed the city, Teleferico, the market and a beautiful Caldera. Each of our departure flights were early and Mayra's staff was on the mark with wake up calls and coffee to go. We were able to leave all the items we bought at the market with Mayra (it helped us manage our luggage to the Galapagos). When we returned, Pablo was waiting at the airport and all our goods had already been placed in the closet of our room! This restored setting is very very tastefully decorated with antiques and paintings. Breakfast is delicious and all of the staff are excellent. We highly recommend Casa San Marcos for your stay in Quito.

Room Tip: I don't think there's a bad one.

My husband and I spend two nights at the Casa San Marcos on a recent trip to Peru and Ecuador. The hotel is very small, is in a very convenient and central part of the city, and is combined with an art museum -- only six rooms, each containing beautiful pieces of art and furniture. Our room was clean and comfortable -- if we had a complaint, the bathroom was so small that you had to exit to change your mind. There was very little room for toiletries, and the shower was somewhat claustrophobic. Everything worked, however, and it was clean and had plenty of hot water. We had a wonderful view of the statue of the "winged Virgin" from our bedroom window. While I had no trouble sleeping, my husband did complain of street noise (horns, sirens, motorcycles) that kept him awake (we did have the windows open). We ate breakfast one morning in the "cafeteria" -- lots of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, eggs cooked to order, and excellent coffee. The staff was polite and went the extra mile for us -- my husband caught a cold on our last day and was a bit feverish -- when I asked for some soup, they quickly made him some delicious, hot chicken soup and brought it right to our room. Free WiFi and a flat screen TV with CNN (yes, we like to keep up with world events) were an added bonus. Thank you to the staff for their attention to detail -- they have created a jewel in the midst of the city.

Casa San Marcos was a great experience for my family. It's a 300 year old hacienda that has been turned six bedroom boutique hotel, two blocks from Quito's historic district, The proprietor grew up in the hacienda and has wonderful stories about Quito. It's also an art gallery, filled with antiques, and has a wonderful patio restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the best service of any place we stayed during our two week trip to South America. And they have WiFi as well!

Casa San Marcos, a house of treasures Publicado el 10/Noviembre/2011 | 14:51By LANCE BRASHEAR on the Miami HeraldCasa San Marcos - a boutique hotel along what is slowly becoming a cultural corridor in central Quito - was, until recently, a house obscured by time. But the passage of time has a way of not just hiding treasures, but also revealing them when the right person comes along. The name Jose Jaime Ortiz was all but lost as the architect of Casa San Marcos until archives discovered in recent years revealed the hand behind the craftsmanship. Ortiz is now recognized as one of Quito's most formidable architects from the turn of the 18th century and is credited with a dozen structures in Quito including the El Sagrario Church, the reconstruction of La Merced Church, and the tower of Santo Domingo Church. ... more   less
