The three Lodges I visited, San Jorge Eco-Lodge, Tandayapa and Milpe are fantastic locations for seeing and photographing Humming Birds without having to walk any great distances. The staff are incredibly efficient, attentive and accommodating. They will give you space if you need it and literally "jump" whenever you ask for any assistance, not that one expected the "jump". I was amazed at how flexible they were when it came to arranging meal-times etc and how helpful they were when it came to sharing their knowledge of birds. Tandayapa, for example is one of the most beautiful places I have visited due to the fact that the clouds constantly change the mood of the place. It warrants a day or two just sitting in the rooms which have beautiful/majestic views of the Cloud Forests and a few days more enjoying the birds. The whole visit from booking to departure ran like clockwork and my only disappointment was that I did not add a few extra days at Tandayapa. The birds kept me glued to the feeder area and I only enjoyed glimpses of the lovely forest when waking and just before nightfall.

We stayed at Tandayapa, Milpe and San Jorge Quito. Since we did not want organized tours, we were free to wander these lodges and birdwatch and hike at our own pace. At San Jorge, we had a delightful dinner with other travelers, some just returning from the Galapagos, some returning to Tandayapa (my overall favorite). San Jorge is very high up, with a great view of Quito and a short distance to the airport. The plantings are gorgeous. There was a meeting of some sort going on, and we woke up to singing. I wish we had spent another day there to do more exploring. - next time.

We read many reviews of eco-lodges in Ecuador before deciding upon San Jorge Eco-Lodge(s). Our goal was to experience a sampling of different environments in Ecuador - a Cloud Forest, a Rain Forest and some of the highlands outside of Quito. We were not disappointed!

Our tour was perfect - we only had 3 days/nights with Jorge and staff, but they were outstanding and very well geared towards our family. We stayed at each of the lodges - one night each. All the details were terrific - wonderful food, beautiful settings, hot showers after very active days! While not "hard-core birders," we are passionate about wildlife - we were delighted with sightings of over 70 different species in just two days plus many other creatures! Our children loved all the hikes - especially the night hike in the Rain Forest. We will never forget the hike into the Rain Forest to swim under the waterfalls!

Best of all, we were treated like old friends! Jorge, family and staff are genuinely concerned about preserving the beautiful natural habitat in Ecuador. We could not have asked for a better experience.

Our reason for visiting San Jorge Eco-Lodges was birdwatching and photography. Cheryl was able to arrange a perfect itenerary for us. We stayed at San Jorge Quito, San Jorge Tandayapa, and San Jorge Milpe and took side trips to Antizana, Jerusalem Park, Yanacocha, and traveled the old Nono Mindo road.
All the lodges were great. Wonderful staff and delicious food. One of the unique things about San Jorge Tandayapa and San Jorge Milpe Lodges is you walk into them. They are surrounded by pristine forest, which makes them very unique.
Another of the highlights of the trip was spending time with Dr. Jorge Cruz. He is a remarkable man with great vision. His knowledge of birds, flora, and the history of this tremendously diverse country is to be applauded. He also has a great sense of humor.

I recently stayed at three San Jorge Eco Lodges; Quito, Tandayapa, and Milpe, each different in its own way. All had nice, clean accomodations and the staff was excellent. Meals were wonderfully prepared.
My main reason was for birding and I was never disappointed. Most days, we were guided by the owner Dr. Jorge Cruz and one day by his eldest son. Many species of hummingbirds, flycatchers, and tanagers were seen. We stopped at one site to look at the cock-of-the-rocks, which are quite noisy.
The walk up to the top of Tandayapa lodge takes about 30 minutes and can be steep at times, but all of your luggage is carried for you and I even had the assistance of Estalin, who helped me up steps. Wonderful! The lodge and the view were worth the walk.
I strongly recommend the lodges, especially if you are interested in birding and nature.

The trip was tailored to our time schedule and preferences. We stayed at the Quito Lodge the first night and two nights in the Tandayama Lodge. We spent 12 hours with Jorge our guide and one other family bird watching our way from one lodge to the other. We saw 90 species of birds in two days, 17 hummingbird species. The rooms were beautiful and spacious. The food was delicious. The lodges involve some steep hiking in and out so you have to be in fairly good physical condition.
