Owner description: "There’s a reason the South American Andes is spoken about with awe, and the cone of Ecuador’s Cotopaxi volcano is the icing on this mountainous hunk of cake. Scraping the sky at more than 5800 metres above sea level, the stratovolcano is currently snoozing after chucking a tantrum in late 2015, when it spat smoke and ash into the air. Rug up for altitude and thunder down its foothills on a 30-kilometre cycling trip with Biking Dutchman Tours. A back-up vehicle will carry you up high, where you’ll swing onto the saddle of a 21-speed mountain bike and head off-road, winding through ancient lava fields and past wild horses grazing in grassy plains studded with wildflowers. Stop at Incan ruins, enjoy a homemade picnic lunch, and spot the snowy giant reflected on the surface of Limpiopungo Lake... " GET LOST MAGAZINE

Heading down on Biking Dutchman provided mountain bikes, from the volcano at an altitude of almost 16,000 feet, was nothing less than exhilarating. Then it became nearly surreal as the downhill became over 30 kilometers of beautiful downhill fully paved terrain, absolutely stunning mountain scenes on every corner, and the corners seemed to go on forever. It was really superb, and our guide, Alberto, knew just what he was doing! He commandeered an excellent two day adventure for myself and my family (wife, and two very athletic teenage children). The two day mountain biking adventure put together by Ana and Biking Dutchman, of Quito, Ecuador, was nothing short of phenomenal. We highly recommend them. Ana was incredible for she did way more than simply book us for the trip. She provided expert guidance and advice and was always incredibly responsive and professional. The price wasn't at all extravagant and their descriptions of activity were all completely accurate. We definitely recommend them if you're considering any kind of trip to Quito, especially if you're interested in Cotopaxi or Chimborazo national parks, and seeing their beautiful volcanos.

We did the five day tour with 4 other people and our guide Fernando and driver Cesar.
It was absolutely fantastic. It is THE experience to do in Ecuador that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Sure we did the Galapagos to, nice, beautiful, but there is nothing like the Biking adventure, would do it again in a heartbeat, cannot say the same about the Galapagos.
We did have some rainy days and I must say they could have prepared us a bit better on advice to bring some extra clothes, because you are allowed to bring your whole holiday pack, we decided to pack a bit more light and left some, (we thought) unessential clothes at the hotel. The drying options in Urbina were perfect but the days after was less, so an extra pair of long trousers you can wear on your bike would have been a nice addition.
You are cycling through such different landscapes and weather that it is unpredictable to say whay the weather will do, so be prepared for everything. This will make your biking trip even more enjoyable.
I can talk hours about the things we saw and did, but the better thing to do is just go and experience this jewel in Ecuador yourself.
If you do want to hear more, feel free to contact me, but we warned, it will be a long and enjoyful story. LOL
If you are going to do the five day trip or longer or shorter trip, be sure to ask for Fernando as guide, absolute guarantee for succes.

Greetings Marianne and Werner

A few days ago we did the Cotapaxi daytour, it was really great. Next to the great view on the vulcano, the guide (Diego) was very helpfull and explained a lot about the area and the country. The lunch was also arranged by the biking dutchman and was very good. They made a special meal for me, because I have an intollerance for wheat / gluten and milk. This tour is a must have for this country.

We took the one day Papallacta trip which was perfect for our group of 9 people, ages 12-52. The cycling was fun, challenging, but not too strenuous. The stop at the hot springs was a nice change of pace, everyone was ready to get back on their bikes after lunch. The last stretch along the railway line that has been converted to a bike trail, was really fun, the kids loved cycling through the tunnels.

Our guide was very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English, and had a real passion for cycling and for the natural beauty of Ecuador. The equipment was fine, all the bikes were in working order, they had plenty of helmets and gloves.

I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a fun way to spend a day outside of Quito.

We did the one day trip to Cotapaxi with the Biking Dutchman in October. Diego our guide was just so enthusiastic and helpful and he really made the trip. We travelled from Latacunga and met him and 3 others at the Cotapaxi Park entrance, travelled by van up to the car park and walked up to the first refuge on Cotapaxi. It was not an easy walk with the altitude, climbed 1,000 ft but both myself aged 65 and my Husband who is 67 made it!! The views from almost 16,000ft were amazing. The highlight for my Husband was the cycle trip down from the car park, really exhilerating!! We enjoyed a lovely pasta lunch by the river with chocolate brownie for desert. Diego was very particular with the safety of the cyclists and made sure the bicycles were in A1 condition. We would thoroughly recommend this trip to anybody visiting Ecuador and looking for a little adventure. Our Hostal in Latacunga - Hostal Tiana arranged this trip in advance for us.
