We had a guided tour. It was great, as it gave us some of the history behind the paintings, much of which we didn't know. The tour was interesting, and the visit overall was very inspiring.

Both an art museum and secular chapel dedicated to humanity and displaying works of the famous Ecuadorian artist Oswaldo Guayasamin. Not to be missed!

The suffering depicted is all there in the faces and unforgettable. The building is worthy of its contents and the staff a pleasure to meet. I could only wish the experience had not included the strident voice of a guide booming through the entire building. For me at least the paintings spoke for themselves.

This is indeed the masterpiece of modern Quito. Built as an add on of the Museo Guyasamin, it has been designed upon a very simple idea: human beings have created churches and temples to celebrate God, but no place of cult has been built to celebrate man himself. The idea behind La Capilla del hombre is exactly to create a temple to celebrate the human beings.
Although a little off the beaten track, La Capilla deserves the visits and is becoming a must see sight in Quito. First of fall the place is enchanted. It is located over a hill and from there is a stunning view of Quito and of the mountains around the city. The building itself is very impressive. From the outside it recalls the wall of an Inca construction. But what is really impressive is the inside: you might either like Guayasamin or not like him, but the spaces and the dimension of la Capilla are breathtaking. And for the fan of Guayasamin there are on display some of his largest paintings, perfectly positioned within the huge interiors. Not to be missed.

This place is not just a museum to me; it is truly a "Chapel" where Guayasamin speaks loud, strong, committed through his pieces. I surprised myself crying, feeling the impotence about humanity mistakes and the importance to care. He has taken me to places I have never being in the world... but mostly deeply in my hearth. If you go, you must take a guide, it is included and totally worth. Guayasamin is a poor Latin-American native who became a genius speaking for those with no voice.
