First of all, Quito is a big city; so, no matter where you stay, you'll have to take a taxi to go anywhere, and the whole town is an hour taxi ride from the airport.

Having said that, location wise, we couldn't have picked a better place than Lugano Suites, as it's located in a quieter and more residential neighborhood across from Parque La Carolina. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and having a park so close to the hotel was a big bonus for us as we were traveling with a young child.

The hotel and its amenities were nice, new and met all our needs, and the breakfast, although not extensive, was acceptable.

However, what made Lugano Suites exceptional was the excellent service, especially a concierge (door man, porter, and an all-around go to person) named Luizao, who worked tirelessly to make sure our stay in Quito was enjoyable. Every time we called a cab, he took the time to make sure that the driver knew exactly where we were going, and if/when we ran into a problem, he was always helpful and worked to find a solution. We wouldn’t have had such a wonderful stay in Quito without Luizao’s help, and the great staff at Lugano Suites!

This hotel is a true gem in Quito! We stayed in this hotel for a few nights and would recommend this hotel to everyone. The value of the hotel is great. We had a suite with a kitchenette, living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The price was very reasonable. The hotel is modern with all amenities you might need (TV, stereo, iron, hair dryer, microwave, refrigerator, etc.). It's clean and spotless. Compared to the Sheraton hotel next door, this hotel is newer and nicer.

The service is extremely helpful and friendly. The staff certainly knows how to make their guests feel welcome. There is a business center on the 2nd floor. The complimentary breakfast is basic but plentiful. The hotel will arrange airport pickups for you, if needed.

The location is excellent in the La Carolina part of town. It's easy to get into the historical district by bus or taxi. Close by (walking distance) are two shopping centers: Quicentro (big mall), Megamaxi (smaller shopping center with huge grocery store). The staff recommended "Mi Cocina" restaurant in Megamaxi. It had great tasting and affordable food. The shrimp in coconut is excellent!

In case you want to do laundry while in Quito, the hotel can arrange it for you. Also, there are several "lavanderias" in La Carolina. Prices are cheap. If you're in a hurry, behind Quicentro mall, there is an express "lavanderia" on the corner of Av. 6 de diciembre and El Mercurio. They will wash and iron your clothes in 2 hours. It is very affordable. The lady in charge speaks English well and service is great.

We would recommend Lugano Suites to everyone - we would certainly stay in this place again if we travel to Quito.

I stayed in this Hotel for 10 days, and I only can say that my experience was excellent. From arranging the taxi to pick me up at the airport until the day I left.
Everything was great at this Hotel,
First of All the location is excellent, located centrally in a very safe and beautiful neighborhood of Quito, very close to two nice malls where you can find anything you need. "Quicentro" and :El Jardin"
Rooms are very clean, nice, the kitchen well equipped.
The included breakfast was super nice everyday.
The Staff of the entire Hotel was super nice, educated and kind.

We stayed only one night between flights. The hotel was perfect for our needs, very spacious, clean.comfortable, We booked a triple room which is actually a suite with two separate bathrooms, a living room and a kitchenette.
I was looking for a hotel closer to the airport than the centre if the city. I think both are far - it still took us over an hour to get to the airport.
I was sorry we only had one night there

We only stayed here for a night and it was a super nice hotel! We had a double suite, two connecting rooms with the living room and kitchenette in between. The rooms were new and well kept. The bathroom was extremely nice and the shampoo bottles they offered were the biggest I have ever seen in a hotel! The next day after checkout we were able to leave our luggage with them until our late night flight. They were super nice about it and even helped us pack the luggage into the car. The night bellhop was absolutely great and a huge help! Definitely would recommend it for a couple or any family staying for a longer trip in Quito.

Room Tip: The noise from outside can be loud at times.

We stayed 7 days at the end of March 2013. We moved to this hotel from another one in Quito. The location was excellent near a large park (1.5 blocks) and major bus routes ($0.25) north & south (1.5 blocks). There were also grocery stores nearby which is important since the room has a small kitchen with microwave, burner and refrigerator. The breakfast was included and served on the 2nd floor. The selection for breakfast was good with cereal, fruit, meet, eggs, etc. The rooms are new and clean. There is also a very nice terrace on the roof with a gas grill and sink. We used the grill and it was great. There is a table and chairs on the terrace and a great place to have a glass of wine in the evening.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The staff spoke English well. That was very helpful. They were eager to be helpful and to ensure you had everything you needed. When our tour operator failed to arrive on-time, the staff arranged for the hotel driver to take us where we wanted to go. The driver agreed to take us to Otavalo and Cotacachi for $100 USD. He was great! He took us everywhere he thought would be interesting. He also watched our back at the Market and carried out bags. He had a new SUV and was in very good shape. We left at 9:00am and came back at 8:00pm. I tipped an extra $25 for the great service. It was cheaper than the tour which would have put us in a van with others. We actually saw the tour operator at one of our stops and we were glad they hadn't arrived and we had our current arrangement.
The internet was free and fast. The cable channels included US (English) channels. We could watch such channels as CNN. That was great. Our previous hotel didn't have any English channels and their internet service never worked over the course of 3 days.
The hotel is located in an area where the expats live so the area is very nice. The tourist areas are easily reached by the bus that runs north/south. The main tourist area is only 3-4 stops on the bus ($.25).
There are only three rooms on each floor so it feels more like a condo than a hotel which is a plus.
The staff at the front desk were very helpful. They would either know where to go or will call or go on the internet to find what you want. They will also follow up with a phone call to confirm inform information - VERY helpful!

Room Tip: The view is better the higher you go. Also, room numbers ending in '1' such as 701, 801, etc...

Stayed for 5 nights during a recent trip to visit family and explore Quito. The hotel was lovely and very clean. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They arranged for drivers for our large party and were helpful with suggestions about the city. Breakfast was tasty with wonderful fresh fruits and juices as well as breakfast staples. Will definitely stay there again.
