We had room 7 with a small balcony and a fabulous view of the ocean.
The room was charming with interesting art and a very comfortable bed.
The staff was friendly and helpful when asked for suggestions about sightseeing, etc.
We enjoyed the breakfast and felt the service was excellent.

You'll stay in a small house with actually only 6 or 8 bed rooms, I understand. The local flair of bygone era created by creaking wooden floors and stairs, comfy easy chairs around a fireplace and round or smaller square tables for breakfast on the other side of all the same "living room" plung you in the atmosphere of the historic neighbourhood where the Manoir is situated. From 2 tables outside in front of the house, you can see a part of the bay as you are up the hill, in a passage without traffic. The bedrooms are comfortable yet small. My single room (although with twin beds) No. 3, had a tiny flat screen television, enough to see the news f.i. It would be a shame to spend your time in front of a tv if there is so much to experience and taste in the immediate surrounding. The bathroom with shower and toilet offers amenties from the house. I suggest you ask for the bigger rooms if you are a couple or if you want to stay longer than my one overnight visit.
A continental breakfast with a couple of fresh fruit skewers and a custard cake to start, bread rolls, jam, sliced cheese and ham, can be completed with a la carte hot dishes at an extra cost. The waitress should be a little more attentive to see if guests arrive. Some guests wondered if she would appear from the kitchen or not. Otherwise, she and the other personnel is friendly and very helpful.
On a touristic roundtrip, these are the kind of places that add to the specific feeling of really experiencing a city or a region. As the hotel doesn't offer dinner service, among more cosy or attractive occasions to fulfill your gastromomic expectations, I strongly recommend to consider tasting the kitchen creations of Cafe Turri, closely around the corner, and with an overwelming panorama over the bay.

The Manoir Atkinson offered a clean very pleasant place to stay in a very cool city. The views from the hotel's two roofs are wonderful. It is a good bargain in terms of price and had really good continental breakfasts. Though you have walk hills wherever you are in Valparaiso, the Atkinson was centrally located and it was very easy to get to interesting parts of town by foot. I highly recommend the hotel and its pleasant staff.

We stayed in room 5 and room 6 recently....both rooms on top floor, the balcony looks up the hills with a view of the Lutheran Church close by. Room 7 definitely the pick ...great views of the port and a large room. Hotel Atkinson is located on a hill but not a difficult walk up and if you prefer at night lots of lovely restaurants close by without a climb. We wondered the streets at night and felt quite safe...also galleries and touristy shops close by. Well located to walk most places like the Naval Museum, Restaurants, bars and general sightseeing. We booked for 2 nights and ended up staying 4 nights - was a great base. Staff really friendly, nothing is a problem and speak English. Wifi was great too.

We were disappointed in the Manoir Atkinson. Our room, #6, was incredibly small, uncomfortably so. The ceiling slanted and that was the only place to put suitcases. Watch your head!! We peeked into other rooms because they were empty - others were also very small. The towels were thin. The window had to be coaxed into opening, if you could get around the TV to reach it. The lever to hold it in place was attached with some sort of tape rather than hardware.

The breakfast was anything but gourmet. Eight pieces of fruit on a kebob stick, bread, cheese, ham, coffee, and a piece of merangue pie. An OK breakfast, but not gourmet. We mentioned to the manager that we thought the breakfast was lacking. He advised that they can call it "gourmet" because sometimes a portion of it is homemade (I think the pie).

It was cold and we tried and tried to turn the heat on. Finally, we called the desk and they had a simple switch in the lobby. Wish they had turned it on when we arrived.

The staff was friendly, but only offered information or assistance when asked. We met one couple there who had walked all around Valparaiso the day before and said they would have gone on one of the free tours, if they knew about them.

By way of suggestion, perhaps the Atkinson could give a 5-minute introduction to new guests or offer a welcome drink or have tea or coffee available all day. Any one of these things might have made us feel more at home and welcome.

The hotel is located in a great location in the hills with many fantastic restaurants and little shops, but it is also near the downtown area of the city. The hotel is very charming with a lot of character, clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was very helpful in making reservations, giving recommendations, and making you feel at home. They also spoke English. The best part of the hotel is the rooftop deck! My husband and I hung out there each evening with a bottle of wine to watch the sunset. Best views of the entire city and waterfront. Sitting on this deck was one of our favorite parts of our whole trip. We really enjoyed the eclectic city of Valparaiso.

Room Tip: The few extra bucks for an ocean view was worth it. We were in room #1.

When we decided to visit Viña del Mar & Valparaiso I though it would be a good idea to chose one of the little boutique hotels in the old part of Valparaiso, so I started to looked for alternatives based in T.A. reviews.

After checking location, prices, pictures, reviews (pro's & con's) and "personalization" of service, we decided to take the option of Manoir Atkinson at "Cerro de la concepción". I sent an email directly to the hotel after check its website. I receive a kind replay with room alternatives and prices and I proceed to confirm my booking with my CC details.

With our rented car we spent the whole day sightseeing over the Valparaiso & Viña del mar area and by the midafternoon we headed to the hotel. Only problem is that I did not ask for directions and find the hotel was a little difficult. But after asked to the people on the street (very nice Valparaisians) we finally got to the Manoir Atkinson.

We did not have any issues when parking our car. Of course spaces are limited and streets are very narrow, but its normal in such parts of a city, where constructions are over the hills you'll never find a whole and plain space. But that's precisely part of its charm... to be located in a top hill overlooking the bay area and harbour....just imagine the views!!!.

Hotel itself is a big elegant european-type house acconditionated to a boutique hotel. Every room (there are few of them) has its own name. We stayed at "Mar y Mundo" which was a double window accomodation with very nice views. However, best views are seen from the roof terrace wich is a very nice spot to take a break or drink.

From the moment you enter, you get that feel of old-fashion and warmth. Lobby area, which is in fact like a living room with its fireplace, little frontdesk, wooded staris, little breakfast/restaurant area are very nice. There is a boutique breakfast in the morning that is included as part of the service. You should mention the hour to be served but they are very flexible becuase in the morning we changed it without any problem.

Breakfast was the part that personally enjoy the most. I felt like few years back when I was having a "petite dejeuner" in Paris, because all breakfast concept was based in that image. Jams, te, hot cocoa, cake, ham & cheese, toast, bread, etc was very good. There is no BUFFET breafkast as you might find in other hotels, because that's not the sense of this hotel. During breakfast time, we greeted the owner, Mrs. Atkinson a fine Canadian lady that had a very nice conversation. My mother expressed to her that she felt like the time we were in "Vieux Québec" in the oldtown in a hotel very alike.

The concepcion area, where the hotel is located is very nice, have a very special charm. We walked through the little streets, with local artist representations all over the place. They are very nice little coffe shops & bars were you may have luch and dinner. In general, its a area to be explored and take attention in the little details, that are the ones that finally counts.

I general, we were VERY happy with out selection of accomodation... so me and my mother highly recommend to try Manoir Atkinson next time you visiti this lovely part of Chile!.

Von voyage!!!...
