A fantastic surprice our agency had found to us. You feel at home. Had the luck to stay for 5 days. Beautiful room, wonderful surroundings, and a breakfast that you are looking forward to every morning. Even there was an earth quake during our stay everything was calm and peaceful. Wonderful staff and a good internet. Old-fasioned but with an atmosphere where you are enjoying life. THANKS!

Room Tip: A room with a view in front. Hope it won't be near a family with smaller children, as you easily can hear them.

We enjoyed the Hotel Thomas Somerscales, named after an Anglo-Chilean painter, who specialized in portraits and marine scenes about 100 or so years ago. At least one of his Chilean marine paintings is in the Tate. The hotel was lovely, service was superb, in a very nice section of Cerro Allegre, though it is a stiff uphill walk from the local ascensor. The breakfast was good and the bilingual staff was helpful with dinner reservations. The room was excellent with an ocean view and an expansive vista of Valpo’s tin roofs. Every afternoon the wind came up and blew strongly until about midnight. The room was cooled off to make sleeping under the covers necessary.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front of the building or on the sides. Rooms at the back have no view.

I chose the Somerscales by incident for one night as in my favorited hotel after checking in booking.com was no place left and intended to switch after my first night to that hotel. Once arrived I immediately fell in love with the Somerscales and stayed all 4 nights there! I absolutely enjoyed the beautiful room with a fantastic view over the city and the ocean! As the house was the residence of the painter Thomas Somerscales you can live the history of the house! Don't worry, it has been renewed and is not "oldfashioned" rather historical in an all positive meaning. Finally the staff was so amazing, kind and helpful, whether the guys Hector, Claudio and Hilding from the front desk or the room and kitchen maids! All were so nice and helpful and tried everything to make my stay the most comfortable, like bringing breakfast to the terrace outside my room, calling vineyards in Casablanca, excellent recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants, making reservations for me and many, many more! I finally felt rather being at home with my "second family" than traveling alone! Rarely felt that on my travels over the last twenty years...

If you are up for something special - go for it!

Room Tip: If you feel like experiencing something special, invest your money in the room with a terrace (No 8)! The feeling to see all over the city and having breakfast or an afternoon tea there is incredible! But all the other rooms I have seen, looked nice as well...

This is a lovely place to stay. Although it is called a hotel, there are only eight rooms and it has the feel of a quaint B&B. The furnishings and antiques are beautiful and help to create a warm and intimate atmosphere. The staff was extremely helpful and anxious to please. Although there is no hotel parking, it is not difficult to find a spot on the street. Breakfast and tea are served in a bright pleasant dining room and are more than adequate. This hotel is also located in the prime gastronomic area so there are lots of good restaurants and cafes within a 5 minute walk. We would definitely return if we visit Valparaiso again.

This was a wonderful place to stay, and I would definitely return. The rooms are charming and clean. The staff is extremely helpful, and the breakfast was very nice. Our room did not have a balcony, but they have a lovely outdoor patio that we enjoyed. I highly recommend this lovely boutique hotel. I can think of no negatives, and they were very nice to provide an additional adapter for us.
