Esteban was simply amazing and the mix of street art, architecture, and history of Valparaíso was outstanding! Esteban grew up here and was passionate about sharing his city with us. My friends went on another tour yesterday and said this was so much better. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Valparaíso even if only for a short time. They also had French and German speaking guides on this trip.

Great tour in English. Loved learning interesting stories about the city rather than the boring stuff found in history books.

I visited Valparaiso with 3 of my boys ages 16-24, their first trip to Chile, in mid-March. Although I have visited Valparaiso many times, I had never formally toured the city. This free/for tips tour left from Plaza Sotomayor at noon. Esteban was our guide and the tour was in English (Sebastian did the Spanish tour at the same time). Initially, Esteban spent some time in front of the Plaza Sotomayor teaching us the history of Plaza Sotomayor and Valparaiso. And then we were off on the walking portion of the tour. We walked just north of the square surrounding Plaza Sotomayor and almost immediately gazed upon some of the most amazing graffiti art we had ever seen! Honestly, I am not a graffiti fan, at least not the "let's just throw some 'tags' up in random places" kind, but as an artist myself, these works were comparable to ones you might see walking through a gallery. Truly impressive in size, artistry and meaning too! As luck would have it (and we had quite a bit of it on this tour), we happened upon one of Esteban's graffiti artist friends setting up to start a piece in one of the alleys. We continued on the tour and passed by, and stopped to learn about, Cienfuegos stairway and Plaza de Justicia. Because the funicular on Cerro Cordillera was closed, we went up the funicular on Cerro Concepcion and walked through its neighborhood. This is not a location that tourists normally get to see, but a privilege cultivated by this tour company and its guides. (More than one person greeted Esteban with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.) Which leads me to lucky point #2. While touring the neighborhood and seeing the homes of Valparaiso up close, one of the residents invited us in! She gave us a tour of her beautiful, roughly 200 year old, home and its back yard where she shared figs from her trees with all of us on both the English and Spanish tour. When I noticed she had tomatoes, she offered me a couple of tomatoes to take with me:) It was amazing to see a typical Valparaisan home complete with its original corrugated metal (from old shipping containers) siding and gorgeous (although newer at about 100 years old) Oregonian wood floors. Wow! Shortly thereafter, after taking in the beautiful site of Valparaiso up from the hills, and learning yet more from Esteban about this historic city, our tour was unfortunately over. Sort of. Lucky point #3 (or sometimes we make are own luck). We finished the tour at Bar La Playa, a bar and restaurant right by Plaza Sotomayor. The 4 of us were hungry, and thirsty since the afternoon had really warmed up, so we decided to stay for lunch there. Esteban and Sebastian said they were staying for a drink too so I offered to buy them one. Well, they both stuck around for our entire lunch sharing stories, political views, global perspectives, etc. Both lifelong Porteños, the information they knew and shared about Valparaiso was priceless! They even had a lively futbol conversation with my 20 year old soccer-fanatic son! For the record, I speak Spanish and my boys understand and speak in varying degrees. Our conversation with Esteban and Sebastian was truly in Spanglish. To summarize the tour was fantastic, but sitting down and sharing conversation with these young men was the icing on the cake! DO NOT MISS IT!

Felipe led us on a really thorough tour through Valpo, taking in all the varied street art. It's probably the best way to discover the city and get the most out of your time here.

Felipe was extremely thorough and we saw the best parts of the city, including some hidden parts we wouldn't normally find ourselves.

Highly recommend - one of the best tours we've done in our travels in Latin America.

We've gone on other tip-based walking tours in South America with the more popular companies, and they are fine but this tour gives you something different, and I'm glad we did it. In the 12:00 tour we saw neighborhoods where people actually live, not the tourist havens of Cerros Alegre and Constitucion, great areas but you can easily walk around them yourself. We really appreciated Estefan's knowledge of the city's history as well as the culture, and his love for his city was obvious. He has lived in Valpo all his life and grew up in the neighborhoods you tour. We visited shops he has been going to for 40 years, and he knew several people we ran into on the tour. I highly recommend taking this tour and then walking around the touristy cerros, and taking the "O" bus, on your own.
