There's lots to see in Valparaiso and much of it you can do yourself with the aid of a decent guidebook and local map which any hotel can provide. But if you'd like to learn a bit more about the city's colorful history and get off the beaten tourist track, this walking (for tips only) is a must. Our guide Philippe was exceptionally knowledgeable and personable and took us places I would never have gone myself but was glad I did. Don't be afraid that a walking tour is too strenuous in this very hilly city. Our guide took his time and went slowly enough so that I never felt rushed or hurried and actually felt that I learned more about the local culture and pace through the conversation and his explanations than I could have learned from any guidebook. He made good use of he ascensures to get up the hill but had us walk down so we got of the color of this UNESCO World Heritage site. His English language skills were excellent and my partner and I were both glad we took this tour. It will be on of the highlights of our Chilean vacation for sure.
