“Great house!”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

It was marvellous to be able to walk around on my own - the staff present were unobtrusive and I was able to enjoy the layout of the house, not just the paintings and sculptures. A fascinating place which included interesting features, like bathrooms and a shower!

“Beautiful museum”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

I have been to many art museums and this one was excellent. The building and the art were both great. You can tell much work and money has gone into this project. The art was a good combination of various styles. Many from late 1800's and early 1900's which we especially enjoyed

“An interesting collection of 19th century Chilean art in a beautiful Art Nouveau chateau”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

We visited the Palacio Baburizza for three reasons: first, it was right across the street from our wonderful hotel, the Palacio Astoreca; second, the building itself is absolutely beautiful and so inviting it demands to be explored; and third, we had been recommended to make a visit by a knowledgeable Chileno. We were not disappointed.
The collection is, although not spectacular, nevertheless quite good. It primarily consists of late 19th century, early 20th century Chilean paintings, although there are a few modern and even contemporary works in the last few rooms on the circuit. Much of the art of pleasant, charming, but not particularly "great." There were some important exceptions, however. One absolute standout were the paintings of Camilo Mori (1896-1973). My wife and I were excited to discover this, to us, hitherto unknown artist. There were many other outstanding Chilean artists represented, and their paintings made our visit to the museum totally worthwhile.
The Palacio building itself is a principle draw. Utterly beautiful, in a charming art-nouveaux/craftsman style, it sits on a high promontory above the beautiful city of Valparaiso, just a few steps from the top of one of the oldest and steepest ascensores (funicular railways) in the city. There are excellent restaurants nearby. It is definitely worth a visit.

“museum with a view”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

getting there is fun since it's right on a funicular stop. gardens lovely and even a great restaurant, all with lovely views.
museum is actually a converted small palace. Artworks good but don't look for famous international names. Go for the overall package, a lovely 2-3 hours trip
