Fabulous 3 day tour – Michael (The German Pirate) is great!
Day 1 - Michael picked us up from Star Princess along with two German couples that we met on the ship and gave us an amazing tour. Experienced Chile’s Wall Street, funiculars, amazing views, old and new and learned quite a bit about life in Valparaiso and Chile (he speaks English, German and Spanish). Saw a historical old Anglican church. Very informative and knowledgeable, seems to know everyone and everything and we saw great spots off the beaten path. Shared a cold beer in an old German bar (try to pick up the white mug), had a nice lunch with a view – thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommend, a great time had by all. Made nice suggestion for dinner at La Concepcion as we stayed in Valparaiso and he took the others to Santiago.
Day 2 – Picked up at Hotel Manoir Atkinson (very nice hotel) along with a young astronomer PhD student from Bamberg and took us sightseeing. Toured the beautiful coast, Casablanca valley wine and champagne taste testing, Isla Negra Casa de Pablo Neruda, Quintay whale village for fresh local Congrio fish lunch, visited Chilean friend’s home and museum, strolled an amazing beach – great day.
Day 3 – Tour and transfer to Santiago – saw Vina del Mar, Renaca, Concon, Horcon (an old hippie village) where we saw pelicans and ate ceviche and watched a boat being brought out of the water by horse, visited a waterfront cemetery, Papudo and Zapallar (most expensive area), walked to see penguins and beautiful breathtaking views. Drove us through the coastal mountains to Santiago – great information, felt so comfortable.
What an experience - it was so worthwhile and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Valparaiso and area.
GREAT JOB MICHAEL – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. You are a terrific guide and nice person. Keep on smiling !!!

Michael came recommended to us (my parents, my brother, an in-law, and me), and we're really glad we had the tip. We spent 2 days with him (though surely you could also choose to do a single day), and really benefitted from his experience, knowledge and love of Valparaiso, and great communication skills.

Michael often took us away from the beaten path, with great results. Any guide book, and any average guide, can take you to the "expected places" -- the plazas, craft shops etc., that guides sometimes *think* you want to see. Michael does much better than that, and we really enjoyed our time with him. We've subsequently recommended him to several others.

Hi, i studied in valparaiso and searched for a place to stay before i came here. i was so lucky to find mike in couchsurfing. he invited me to stay in his and his wifes flat for the first days, the best start that i can imagine! he showed me around in valpo, explained a lot about the history, knows everyone on the street and therefore not just arranges tours, but gives u a concrete idea about how live is here, with all it's positives and negatives parts.

i stayed in contact with him during all my time here and when my mum came to visit me we did several tours in valpo's surroundings.
he really knows where to go!!!

i really recommend you to do a tour with mike if you are here, it's more than those typical tourist tours!!!!
Mike he is a really great guy and guide!!!

Michael is really great! He picked us up from the boat, in the rain. It was pouring! We still had an excellent tour, meeting some friends and family on the way. We learned quite a bit about life in Valparaiso and Santiago. We were able to walk a bit between showers and still saw a lot of the sights that make Valparaiso the city it is. Very interesting info about the original city seaside and the currant one. We saw the buildings, new and old and the one shaped like a ship, a very old building being restored by a friend. Even the trip to Santiago was interesting. Arriving in Santiago in the rain and traffic, we were worried about spending another week in the rain. Michael reassured us that there was plenty to do and gave us several suggestions. He allayed our fears and we are so glad he did. We also had a great time in Santiago, staying at Casa Moro! Thank you Michael.
