Hi, i studied in valparaiso and searched for a place to stay before i came here. i was so lucky to find mike in couchsurfing. he invited me to stay in his and his wifes flat for the first days, the best start that i can imagine! he showed me around in valpo, explained a lot about the history, knows everyone on the street and therefore not just arranges tours, but gives u a concrete idea about how live is here, with all it's positives and negatives parts.

i stayed in contact with him during all my time here and when my mum came to visit me we did several tours in valpo's surroundings.
he really knows where to go!!!

i really recommend you to do a tour with mike if you are here, it's more than those typical tourist tours!!!!
Mike he is a really great guy and guide!!!

Michael is really great! He picked us up from the boat, in the rain. It was pouring! We still had an excellent tour, meeting some friends and family on the way. We learned quite a bit about life in Valparaiso and Santiago. We were able to walk a bit between showers and still saw a lot of the sights that make Valparaiso the city it is. Very interesting info about the original city seaside and the currant one. We saw the buildings, new and old and the one shaped like a ship, a very old building being restored by a friend. Even the trip to Santiago was interesting. Arriving in Santiago in the rain and traffic, we were worried about spending another week in the rain. Michael reassured us that there was plenty to do and gave us several suggestions. He allayed our fears and we are so glad he did. We also had a great time in Santiago, staying at Casa Moro! Thank you Michael.

My husband and I were in Chile for the first time, and decided to spend a day in Valparaiso. Had read the reviews on Michael the German Pirate, and decided to go with him. We were very pleased with the tour. Michael made us feel very comfortable, and gave very interesting and unique information about the city. He is also a very nice guy! The tour was just long enough to give us a feel for Valparaiso. What an interesting, colorful city, and a guide who had lived there and knew everything about the history, people, buildings, and art scene. I would recommend Michael to anyone who wants a fun day walking through Valparaiso. Also enjoyed the humor he injected with some of the local characters that he knew and introduced to us. Well done, and well worth the money!
