We were really glad to find this place in the middle of Cerro Concepcion in Valparaiso. It was the perfect location for us, close to plenty of bars and restaurants and in a really nice part of town. Our room was quite spacious and very clean and there was a good wifi connection. One day our room wasn't cleaned, but not sure why this was. Otherwise the service was great and the staff were helpful & friendly. Breakfast was really good, consisting of fruit, breads and yoghurt. One tip: check your front door key works before you leave for dinner; ours didn't, but luckily we returned at the same time as another guest who let us in!

This is a great, high ceilinged old house right in the center of Cerro Concepcion. Step out the door and there are restaurants, shops, galleries and great views. Very clean and tasteful. The only down side is some street noise. The house also carries noise a bit. We spent two nights in the big king bed room. Then Andres asked us to move across the hall as the room had been reserved. This wasn't a problem. The second room, while smaller and with a queen bed, had the same great bathroom ( different decoration but same quality), and it was less expensive. We hope the window onto the interior courtyard will be quieter. Not much of a view but there are plenty of those outside. The typical Chilean breakfast was good but was lacking fresh fruit, normally available. The yogurt was creamy though.

Our best accommodation in Chile, room was great but best of all was our host Andreas he recommended a great restaurant on our first night which was terrific and not expensive. We run a B and B ourselves in Australia and he first 1st class. Stray dogs are a major problem in all of Chile but they were quiet at night. We loved Valparaiso we walked around it for hours which is the best way to see it .A great artist sells his drawings just a few doors away from the B and B his name is Mario he likes to paint cats, dogs and faces but is not always their look out for him.

We were very unhappy when we first arrived after booking through another website (which beings with 'booking") as we wanted a family room and ended up with 3 single beds in a fairly cramped room. but the owner, Andres, was charm itself the next day and sorted us out with a much nicer room with a king-sized bed and a single for our daughter. After that, sleep was no problem, even blissful, and the breakfasts were top drawer. The place was clean, the hot water plentiful and we really liked access to the kitchen to make morning/afternoon tea or coffee etc...and the wi-fi connection was excellent. Above all, we loved Valpo and walked endlessly around its fascinating streets, learning its equally fascinating history.

We stayed in Puerto Escondida B & B for one night and two days. It's extremely clean and in the perfect location. Sheets, beds and pillows were perfect and the insanely clean bathroom has big fluffy towels and soaps. There's a kitchen, a living room with books and a little courtyard as well. Directly outside the hotel are two restaurant/bars and just around the corner is a little corner store and more restaurants. The area is perfect for wandering the streets for hours and looking at all the amazing street art and murals that splash the houses. It's completely safe and although we were there post-high season there were other tourists wandering around as well. The owner speaks great English and was really helpful. I even needed a battery charger for my camera and he gave me perfect directions to a store that had one! The next morning when he wasn't around there was a women that was helpful with showing us how to get to the bus station to buy our tickets to our next destination. Even with the major language barrier we worked it out and she had a jolly spirit about the whole thing, and an amazing amount of patience. I never felt like I was being a bother and Andres would just plop down next to me and energetically answer my thousands of questions. Walk around the hills near the hotel for sure, and if you have time go down to the port and walk around and take one of the 100 year old acensors back up!!

Room Tip: We slept in a triple on the ground floor on near the street. It wasn't too loud even though it...

We stayed for two nights at Puerta Escondida and felt welcome the minute we stepped through the door. Andres was there to greet us in English and helped us deal with a suitcase dripping wine from a bottle that had not survived our last travel episode. After showing us to our room (Habitacione #2), Andres drew us a map of the area and suggested restaurants, sights of interest and local amenities.
As other travelers have mentioned, the 1920's house has been painstakingly restored and each guest room has period furniture, comfortable beds and modern bathrooms with big fluffy towels. The huge casement windows opening out to the street connect you to the sights, smells and sounds of Cerro Concepcion.

For me, the key ingredient of a 5 star B&B visit (after the condition of the property) is the involvement of the proprietor. The personality of an area comes alive when a B&B owner welcomes you to his/her home and relays their passion for their location.

Both Andres and his helper Elizabeth went out of their way to help us enjoy our visit to Valparaiso and to explain a bit of the history of the house and the area. Andres also answered all our initial email inquiries promptly and provided instructions for the taxi driver.

When we left, Andres offered to drive us and our 4 suitcases down the hill to the bus station for the beginning of our long trip home to Canada. He came into the bus station with us and made sure we were on the right bus before leaving. That is true Chilean hospitality!

We would definitely recommend Puerta Escondida to other travelers.
Muchas Gracias Andres!
