A relaxed, oddball hostel run by a very friendly English-speaking artistic couple - they've put a lot of work into the decor, which is kinda wacky but fun to wake up to! A nice old building with plenty of character. Great place to chill - thankfully free of partying Gap Yah types. Also easy walking distance from both the bus station (5 mins) and the tourist areas round Cerro Alegre (15 mins) - the hostels up there might be on prettier streets, but they're a long way to haul your rucksack from the bus station! Also there's a good kitchen which is open to guests. Misses out on five stars only because the lounge, while cosy and comfy, is quite small, and the breakfast is ok but not great (you just get a roll - no eggs or yogurt).
