We did not stay at this hotel, although we did have afternoon drinks and food in their bar-restaurant area. The view of the green church and the bay is gorgeous. The vibe is hip, with well-priced drinks and food. This is a great place to relax after walking up and down the hills of Valparaiso!

We stayed here for 2 nights before joining a cruise. The hotel comprises a great restaurant on he top level, and then a series of hotel rooms below. The rooms are large, and feature wonderfully comfortable king beds. The decor is minimalist, with cut-a-ways to the cliff face. The bathrooms are very modern and functional. The Wi-fi worked well.
Our cab driver from the Valpo bus station (Following our trip from Santiago on Turbus) had no problem locating the Fauna at the end of the alley. The follwing day we took the Reina Victoria Ascensor (just a few metres from the Fauna) to the train station to Vina del Mar for a great day out.
The breakfasts at the Fauna (included with the roomrate) were wonderful, including eggs, coffee, taost, fruit etc. We also had a lunch and dinner at the Fauna. The chef (Gisella) is amazing, and we had seafood on both occasions. The Pisco Sours must be tried! If the weather is good, the view from the restaurant over the city and harbour is to die for.
There are many restaurants in the area around the Fauna, which is also ideal for beginnining a walking tour of the city.
Javier, who welcomed us, and also works in the restaurant is a great guy. We chatted about jazz and blues, and the world in general. He also helped to make our stay pleasant, with advice, and taxi bookings etc. We hope to be back here before too long.

A few steps from the top of the Reina Victoria ascensor (funicular, typical of old Valpo) & we were in one of the most unique boutique hotels ever..... do not be put off by the authentic exterior! Quirky & cleverly designed using traditional materials.
Altho' we arrived before 10 , straight from the cruise port, Javier made us welcome & suggested we sit on the terrace with a coffee & enjoy the great view until our room was ready - which it quickly was.
We booked rm 5 which has a sep sitting area, great views & the comfiest king bed!
Ate a delicious dinner twice on our 3nt stay - Gisella is a great cook. Recommend the bruschetta, the scallops, the Mero & also the fish of the day and the Pannacota & cheese cake are to die for....
Breakfast on the small terrace - fresh orange juice, fruit salad, great bread, eggs, cheese, jam, good coffee.
Staff - Pedro, Kamal & the breakfast ladies all extremely helpful.
Ideally situated for exploring Cerro Conception. Used the Ascensors & took local bus to Vina del Mar.
Arrived as strangers - left as friends!

Fauna is a great place to stay in Valparaiso. The service is first-rate and the rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast is great: fresh and personalized--we even got a specially-made private breakfast when we left at 7am our last day.

The food is very good--the brainchild of a young and eager local chef--and Fauna offers great Pisco sours and delightful craft beer at all hours.

Get a room with a view of the harbor and Cerro Concepción and enjoy the great vista morning and night. Fauna is on the city's most happening Cerro, with easy access to other great restaurants and bars and a quick walk down to the flat city center.

This was a great hotel - friendly, interesting, small, trendy (without trying) and personable. The trendy and hip elements were just great - not a gimmick (a la W Hotels) but just thoughtful decoration and style - a really nice change from chain hotels.

We stayed nights in this hotel out of three. Valparaiso is an interesting place and to explore the town but three nights is more than enough. On the off season, there is not a ton to see by the beach area and the newer part of town is a bit of a let down. Back to the hotel...

The hotel is small with fewer than 8 (?) rooms. The staff run the restaurant, cafe and also reception. You get to know them during your stay as you see them at each of these touch points and they are super helpful and friendly.

We arrived with a car and they showed us how to get to the parking lot through the confusing streets. We checked in and had our triple room - a double with a roll away bed. It was a bit dark but it had a lot of charm. Nice toiletries, thick towels, nice washroom and bedding - all you could ask for. We felt at home.

Location is great and nice walking distance to everything you want to see in the old town. Wonderful balcony and lounge area.

Restaurant is terrific and we had lunch here. Breakfast is included (as with most hotels in Chile) and whilst simple, it was nice and wonderful freshly squeeze orange juice and strong coffee.

We got a great rate emailing the hotel directly. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

The city of Valparasio is awesome. I read in enough guide books that stated, that staying for a few days isn't enough, and I have to agree. I could have stayed a couple of more days and definately at Hotel Fauna.

Valparaiso is an artsy, bohemian, hippy town built into the mountains overlooking the water. It is crumbling and falling apart but you wouldn't even notice it because of the brightly colored houses, graffiti art, and personality this town has. Hotel Fauna is located in the perfect location so that you can enjoy everything that is Valparaiso but with a fun chic twist.

The hotel is built into the hill side. You enter into the foyer and the hotel splits like a two story house. You go upstairs and you land on a large open space which carrys on into a large outdoor patio. The patio looks out onto the hillside where you can see the ocean below. When you go downstairs you enter into the hotel portion. The rooms are built into the hillside and parts of the hill walls are your room walls.

The room, we had, was perfect for two girls on vacation. There was enough space for both of us to spread out our bags (3 large suitcases and a duffel bag) and not feel as though we were on top of one another. The room takes advantage of the mountain wall as its decor. The rest of the decor is simple but artsy. The room was clean and properly equipped for the cold nights of October. By that I mean, the bed was covered in down comfortors and cushy warm pillows. There were extra comfortors, if they were needed. The bathroom was also large, clean, and well equipped. Lots of towels. Lots of warm, large, cushy towels

I love any hotel that provides a proper working hair dryer. And not one of the ones where the base is attached to the wall and the dryer only has a cord of 2 feet, so you can only see half of your head as you are drying it...you know the one I am talking about. This is not that.

The hotel is located in a safe part of the city. We came and went as we pleased and did not feel unsecure. This part of the city is higher up into the hills meaning that it is further away from the more popular, and noiser, bar areas. There are many little resturants and bars within walking distance of the hotel. What the popular areas can't offer you, but what Hotel Fauna can boast about, is the great city view from the hotel resturant and lounge. Not only is the resturant menu a pleasure but they have a delightful wine list too. Imagine, the open city below you with the town coming alive in the nighttime. Little twinkling lights from the houses and bars, dotting the hills, with the open ocean below, makes for a delightful backdrop for tasty Chilean wine. Of all the wine sipping my friend and I did, the best was sitting outside on the hotel patio. Just delicious.

The city is a labyrith of stairs, passeways, and alleys going up and down the hillside. Ladies, think sexy legs. But lets be honest, sometimes you just don't want to do stairs. Do not let the stairs to get to the hotel scare you, the hotel is fortunate enough to be located right next door to an ascensor. Ascensors are outdoor elevators that take you up and down certain hills. The popular bars are at a five mintute walk from the bottom of the ascensor. Think... having your cake and eating it too.

And finally, the staff was very, very helpful. They check you in and leave you alone unless there is anything you need. We arrived earlier than the room was ready. They fixed us a quick breakfast (which is included and tasty) and stored out luggage while we went on a city walking tour. When we came back, the bags were in the room. They gave suggestions of what parts of the city to see, if you have little time, and gave suggestions for certain places to check out. And the best part, the handsome boys in the front take your unnecessarily heavy (32kg) bags up and down the stairs and to your cab.

The most important of everthing, ladies and gentlemen, the price was right. There is nothing better than the feeling of knowing you got a great deal and felt like you paid accordingly, but you know you got the better end of the deal.
