The owners are just lovely, great attention. The room and the view were perfect, and its location is excellent.

We like to recommend it, if you're interested in hosting at Cerro Alegre in Valparaiso, this is the place. A 15 minutes walk near to good restaurants, Neruda house among other attractions.

Sutherland House is a small (8 room) boutique hotel hotel high on one of Valparaiso's many hills. The rooms are on the small side, nicely furnished with modern baths and other features, most with views of the harbor. The owner and members of the hotel staff are extremely friendly and willing to help in any way. Complimentary champagne is a nice touch. Breakfast is cooked to order. The property is a bit beyond easy walking distance from downtown (although we did it), but taxis are easily available and buses run by regularly. Road traffic and barking dogs may disturb light sleepers.

Room Tip: Views are best from the street side but noise may be an issue for some.

We found that this hotel had a nice cosy interior but we were given a very tiny room and an even tinier bathroom for our 2 day stay in Valparaiso so we were not exactly comfortable. The owner is a nice gentleman who was willing to chat and be helpful but overall this hotel was a disappointment as it also has no restaurant or coffee shop ( note the ad says it does but the cafe was closed down some months ago) and being located up a steep hill, can be very inconvenient when tired.

Room Tip: If you don't get one of the larger rooms with a balcony, don't stay here.

We just stayed for one night. The hotel is high on the hill and just a bit of the busy, noisy area. It is worth the climb. After all if you visit this part of Valparaiso you better be fit anyway. The room and the bed were clean. There is free wifi. The view was spectacular.

If you want to have a quite and peaceful place then this is the place to be, The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and if you try only a few words of Spanish you have a friend for life.

We will come back.

THe room with a spectacular view of the bay, the owner making us always feel at home, he even put our second car inside his property. But the best was the exquisite breakfast brought to our terrace with the spring sun and the gorgeous view!

Everything about our stay here was perfect. Our room ( habitacion 302) had the most incredible view of the Valparaiso harbor. Our room had huge picture windows and we could see everything while we laid in bed. The owner Claudio was very nice and. We had wonderful conversations even though we spoke little Spanish. Marcos and Hans where two young men that also worked here and they were delightful and helpful.

We had a delicious breakfast every morning and sat on the balcony overlooking the city. Our room was very comfortable and modern. We had a private bathroom and it was fully equipped with everything we needed, including a hair dryer!! yay! I think the hotel was completely renovated a few years ago. Its a beautiful historic hotel with complete modern conveniences. The location was perfect for us and we were able to walk anywhere on cerro Alegre or cerro concepcion within a few minutes. I would highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: 302 has a beautiful view.

Hotel Sutherland House is absolutely charming, spotless and has fabulous views over the city and harbour. The owner was very helpful and was kind enough to take the time to tell me all about the house and Valparaiso and to suggest activities. This Hotel is a wonderful place to stay, easy walking distance from all the interesting places and I would recommend Hotel Sutherland to anyone. A real highlight of my holiday!

Room Tip: Sea view is well worth it
