This was the best place we ate at during the week we spent in Santiago de Chile. Big choice of wine "per copa", lively atmosphere and very nicely laid out restaurant. Very good French dishes (I had a super steak tartar!) and very nice service at reasonable prices.

One of my first restaurants visits in Santiago, Chile. Nice atmosphere with simple high quality food and an spectacular wine list, including a large selection of wine by the glass. Whether a glass of wine with cheese and charcuterie or fresh salmon or beef you will not be disappointed. Try the "salmon al eneldo" (salmon with dill) as an entry dish.

Our newly discovered gem in Santiago... where we regularly go to.

For a change as in comparison to most restaurants, the staff is nice, perceptive, they have a large collection of wine to be ordered by the glass and their cuisine.... just wonderful.
I always have a glass of Casas del Bosque Sauvignon Blanc, a Confit de Canard and a "tarte au chocolat" for desert... say no more say no more.

I tried twice the confit de canard elsewhere at 2 other restaurants (Peluqueria Francés and Le Bistrot) and it turned out to be a disappointing experience. So, at least I have tried all options, but Baco will be amongst my favorite restaurants and my nr 1 for the confit de carnard. My compliments to the always helpful staff.

Recently had dinner at Baco and would highly recommend it. The food was delicious, although the portions a bit on the small size. The service was very good. The prices were a bit high by US standards, but based on my observations in Santiago, apparently the prices are quite reasonable for the area. One of the best things about the restaurant is the environment. I really liked the open air front and the wood interior. A nice inviting environment if you're looking for a nice relaxing meal in Providencia.

I'm a U.S. citizen living in Santiago for about a year and a half and Baco is conveniently located within a block of my apartment. The restaurant recently expanded yet retained much of it's charm.

With regard to some comments by other reviewers I would note that almost all restaurants in Santiago (and every city in South America for that matter) cater to diners who eat the evening meal between around 9:30 p.m. and midnight. Dining at 7 pm is rare so that ANY restaurant in Santiago would be empty at 7 pm. I assure you that between about 9 pm and midnight you'll find Baco to be full almost every night of the week, usually with a very short wait for a table at the very peak around 11 pm. Reservations are advised but not typically necessary now that the restaurant has expanded.

There is a large crescent-shaped bar to accomodate diners waiting for a table or wanting a pre-dinner drink or appetizer, where the bar tenders scurry about accomodating the busy staff of waiters and patrons at the bar. Since the remodel and expansion there is now an "open" kitchen where the busy staff of chefs can be seen preparing the appetizers and "fondos" (main dishes).

Contrary to one reviewer's comments, Baco is one of the most reasonably priced dining alternatives in Santiago, with most dishes priced up to 50% less than what you'd find in most Vitacura and Las Condes restaurants. The main dishes were priced between US$15 and US$22 on a recent visit.

Baco has a fairly extensive wine list, primarily composed of quality Chilean offerings (which are, of course, among the best wines in the world) with a wide variety served by the glass which is good for solo diners. The menu is classic French Provencal. I typically have a simple steak with a bernaise sauce but have sampled all the classic rustic French dishes, including the Beef Bourguignon and the Cassoulet, all well executed.

My only wish is that the restaurant would occasionally change the menu up slightly or add an evening special that varies from the usual menu so that frequent diners (such as myself) could have a little more variety.

I've dined at no less than 40 restaurants in Santiago and for an inexpensive meal with a great atmosphere and high quality service, Baco is hands-down my favorite. If you only have the opportunity to eat a couple of dinners in Santiago, one should be enjoyed here.
