Stopped in on a holiday because it was one of the few restaurants open close to our hotel. The service was excellent, and the waiter even provided an English menu which was essential for us. We had the abalone empanadas and parmesan razor clams. Both were delucious. We thought the prices were good, servings were large, and drinks were strong. We will be back.

Thank Julie G

I'll get the good points out of the way, the restaurant is in a nice building, courteous staff, and when we asked to return and change an order, they didn't question our request.

Now, the bad. We started with an order of razor clams au gratin (machas a la parmesana) which was made with pregrated bagged parm that sort of didn't melt, basically barely acceptable. Following on, of 4 dishes, only two were ok (fried reineta, a type of fish, and a stew of assorted shellfish, called paila marina). And that is to say, OK, nothing special. The stew had a lot of broken shell floating around in it which as annoying and shouldn't happen at a decent restaurant.

The other two dishes, a pulpo al olivo, which is a peruvian dish, basically steamed octopus thinly sliced with a pureed olive and light mayo dressing, was just vile. The dressing was just way off, not even close to what it's supposed to taste like, and the octopus was inedibly tough. Totally inedible.

The other dish was supposed to be a fried flounder (lenguado), and was definitely not a fish that should have made it to the table. Way too small, just fried into oblivion, dry, not much meat. We sent it back as it was totally unacceptable, and ended up with another fried reineta.

The side salad and an empanada were decent but nothing special. This place is not super cheap, figure on about 15,000 pesos per person.

I write this from the toilet, something was a little bit off and I now don't feel too hot. Big thumbs down, I'd steer clear of this place, and if you do go, stick to the simplest preparations.

We ate here our second night in Santiago. I had a seafood chowder which was good but my wife had a fish au gratin that she was not crazy about. The service was good and the wine menu was reasonable. We actually went back a second time.

I had machas (Chilean clams) with Parmesan cheese as a starter and a great ceviche as the main course. Service is ok, not always very fast. However, the food is excellent and the place has a nice atmosphere. Compared to general prices in Chile the anker ("El Ancla") has a good price-quality relation. Expect to spend some 20 to 25 USD per person (not including alcoholic drinks). All in all, I clearly recommend this place!
