“Food OK, atmosphere a bit clunky, parking impossible”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2012

I had a good lunch here, attentively served. Wide menu options. Not a plush place but quite fun: wood floors, tables, primitive paintings hung around. etc, Not far from Providencia metro station. Not a romantic setting for a quiet tête-à-tête. Full of young executive types at lunchtime. A bit pricey, but typical for this part of the city. Recommend going by taxi (or on foot) since parking during the day is non-existent.

“Great place to eat, just don't park your car nearby!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2012

The food and the attention are great with generous portions. I made the mistake of parking my car just one block away on the street because they have no parking lot. In the period of two hours that I was there it was broken into. I live in Providencia and know that it's getting worse for this type of crime. Something to be aware of when visiting El Ancla.

“SOOOOO Good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2012

We were planning on eating somewhere else, but by the time we checked into the hotel we were starving and it was right across the street, it looked nice and we were all craving some of the famous chilean seafood. They prepared a table for all seven of us in their upstairs area, which is really nice. We ordered our drinks, which included a nice bottle of Casillero del Diablo Shiraz. For starters we each order an empanada with cheese and shrimp, they were HUGE!!!! The server had warned us that they were bigger than the classic ones, but one is enough for two people, specially if you´re planning on eating anything else. This appetizer was followed by another one a Seafood garden, it was for all seven of us, it had a lot of variety, from ceviche, scallops, mussels and other delicacies. We were full by the time we managed to finish it, but our eyes were bigger than our stomachs when we ordered, so there was more to come, more ceviche and their signature dish crayfish cake. Nobody was able to finish their entrees, we were soooo full. Our server insisted on giving everyone after dinner drinks on the house, so we took them, the amaretto was nice and refreshing and helpful for digesting such bountiful meal.
A must do if you find yourself in the area.

“Worth the visit... large portions and great price.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2012

It's located in the busy neighborhood of Providencia. Street parking is scarce if you arrive during peak hours. They do have their own parking but only will accommodate a couple of vehicles, so don't bet on that.

About the food... The taste is above average with unusually large portions for Santiago. Their seafood is fresh and well prepared.

I recommend the seafood sampler platter. I forgot what the exact name was, but was recommended by the waiter and well worth a try. A variety of shell fish (crab claw, variety of ceviches, Chilean avalone, etc.).

I also recommend the locos(Chilean avalone) with salsa verde or mayo. I prefer the home made mayonnaise. The size of the avalone is very large compared to what's offered nowadays. Only when it's in season, of course. We also ordered the erizo (sea urchin) comes with salsa verde (onion and cilantro... add lemon to your taste).

After these three dishes, we were full... didn't even get to the main course. So, order sparingly if you want to try many different dishes.

“An amazing sea food feast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2011

I traveled to Chile in August with 3 ski patrol partners to get a "mid-summer" snow fix and we had dinner at El Ancla the second night we were in Santiago. Having lived in Alaska for nearly 30 years, I have an acute taste for good seafood, but have to admit that the variety and quality at El Ancla put the best I ever had in Alaska to shame. It was simply the most amazing sea food feast I've ever enjoyed. The Casas del Bosque wines the waiter recommended could not have been a better pairing. By all means, if you are in Santiago, go to El Ancla!
