“A wonderful experince”
Reviewed January 24, 2012

In 2004 on our first trip to Santiago Chile I asked the hotel concierge where local people go for a great steak in Santiago. Without batting an eye he recommended Las Vacas Gordas (The Fat Cows).

On arrival it became readily apparent that it is popular with local families with everyone having a fun time. This is a place to practice your Spanish but overall not only were staff friendly but very helpful. They have excellent Pisco Sours but be careful just have one or the morning after can be painful. What ever cut of beef you have it will be prepared he way you want it to be. For salads try the hearts of palm and if you order "papas fritas" (french fries) be aware they are done in beef fat so bring your statin of choice for your elevated cholesterol.
If you have room they have their version of crepes suzette which is a wonderful show of burning alcohol.
In closing a fun place and I have brought colleagues from work several times and all have had fun nights

“good wholesome food at great prices”
Reviewed January 19, 2012

This is the place if you want quantity along with quality, but it´s not a quiet, formal dining type of restaurant. It´s more where you´d go with the family or friends for a really good steak or pasat or whatever; to relax with kids as well. The menu is varied, the steaks on the charcoal are excellent and it´s not expensive. Very recommendable.

“Magnificent dining experience”
Reviewed December 15, 2011

This is not just another churrascaria experience! Best beef we had on this trip, bar none. The wood fired grill provided wonderfully barbequed meats, done exactly as asked. The staff were extraordinary in that they did all those things one expects from wait staff, but with elan. Also they were showmen: a couple at an adjacent table got something or other along the line of (but not) cherries jubilee. The man who served them made quite a production of the flambe portion, lighting the brandy (?) in one gravy boat sort of vessel, then waterfalling it from as high as he could elevate it in one hand to the other boat as low as he could get it in the other, several times. Nary a drop spilled, no one burnt! All this and the pricing is reasonable. Our waiter was a gem - - he worked with his limited (by his own estimate) English and I with my broken Spanish, to get to a very, very, satisfactory selection of items off their a la carte menu. Wonderful evening - highly recommended.

“Wonderful place. It is worth the trip for the empanadas.”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

The atmosphere here is wonderful. The epanadas are worth the trip alone. Steaks are large and flavorful. I go there everytime I am in Chile. Always order the empanadas and the mussles/parmesen cheese.
