“A fabulous stay for a long airport layover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

This hotel saved us during our 36-hour trip from Punta Arenas to San Francisco. It doesn't look special from the outside (you literally walk right across the street from the terminal), but it's elegant inside. We had a very pretty, quiet, comfortable room on the lower level with a great rainshower. There's a tiny swimming pool, a fitness center, free use of Internet computers, and a good restaurant. It was a wonderful place to sleep, shower, and eat during our long trip home.

This new Holiday Inn (there are any number of notices throughout the place assuring us of its newness) is an ideal stopover choice if changing planes at Santiago. If you want to see the city, however, it's a 40 minute drive away. It's ideal because it's literally two minutes walk away from the arrivals gate. Leave the airport at door 4 and it's straight ahead of you.
Beds are large and rooms well appointed. There's a wet room (shower but no bath), large tv and two double beds. Breakfast is plentiful and varied. There's even a pool which we didn't have time to try.
So what's not to like? Well, there's a floor level cupboard with a plug in it which looks as though it was supposed to house a fridge. It doesn't, so there's nowhere to cool any drinks let alone run a minibar. Then there are no glasses to drink from. There's an ice bucket with two plastic mugs carefully wrapped in plastic. I tried to use one of these for some juice. The mug had a hole in it which caused an orange cascade down the front of that empty fridge cupboard. A coffee percolator with a pack of coffee is provided but there's no jug to catch the coffee. Presumably one of the thick card mugs provided could be put on the hot plate. Wait a sec ... hot plate; cardboard. Not a great combination. Didn't try that.
Other gripes? A 10am checkout is a bit sharp considering a lot of stop-over clients will not arrive until late anyway. And I could have done without the omnipresent televisions over breakfast.
Room tips: try not to take a room near the eating area. The clatter of plates makes it through the door.
No, really: this is a comfortable, well appointed if somewhat characterless hotel. It's well worth four stars.

A nice hotel, right at the airport. Just cross a road and you're in the hotel. Nice and cosy. I was travelling to Iquique and connecting flight was next morning. So chose this hotel for a stopover. Buffet breakfast was great. Internet connectivity good.Non smoking hotel, with designated smoking area. Excellent option for transit passengers. Undoubtedly one of the best option in the vicinity of Santiago airport.

Modern clean hotel just yards from the airport. They have internal security doors so not anyone can just wander in. Nice bar area and free wifi.
When we checked in I asked if anyone stayed for more than one night, given the location, and was surprised to hear that people often stay for longer as it is nicer than a number of hotels in town!

We arrived after 1:00 am and were offered a late checkout without asking. The lack of minibar was an issue, because we were so thirsty. The beds were great, with a choice of pillows and the shower was exceptional. The airport noise is very faint, despite the convenience of sleeping right next to it. Breakfast was great and they served extra hot chocolates with a smile. It's a pity we did not have time to try the pool.

Room Tip: They all seem to be very good rooms.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Santiago Airport twice on a recent long trip through South America.

The location can't be beaten for convenience if you are in transit, and the room was a haven of peace and tranquility after long and tiring days in planes and airports. However, once in the restaurant you are positively assaulted by the sight & sound of TVs absolutely everywhere. I don't think there would be a seat in the entire dining area from which there would not be at least 4 or 5 TV's visible. TV in restaurants has a place in a hotel of this nature, and I'm sure that some travelers enjoy it, but surely there is also a place for a peaceful TV free space in which to dine in a civilized fashion, and converse with your companion(s). That issue aside, the food and service in the restaurant was good.

Some further annoyances, the free wifi was so woefully slow that it is unusable. The business centre computers were all out of service while we were there.

There is no bottled drinking water provided, and no minibar, when it is suggested that foreigners do not drink the tap water. Bottled water available from room service is in very small bottles and is ridiculously expensive. And the hygienically wrapped drinking vessels provided next to the ice bucket in the room are plastic cups!! This is not a cheap hotel, surely real drinking glasses could be provided.

On our second visit we purchased a large bottle of water from a shop in the airport.

These are small issues, but they are annoying in what is otherwise a fine hotel.

I had an early morning flight from Santiago to Easter Island. Traffic in Santiago can be slow, so I checked in to this clean, modern and beautiful hotel. It is literally across the street from the airport check-in! You walk out the front door, cross a pedestrian bridge and in 2 minutes you are at the counter. Very convenient and very good hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the mountains near the city.
