The staff spoke absolutely no English and did not attempt to hide their displeasure at our having arrived an hour before check-in time of 2pm. Neither were they any more accommodating when we once outrageously requested a second cup of coffee at breakfast (a desultory affair with stale cake). Our "matrimonial room" had a bed so small I don't think it was even a double. The mattress was cheap and old. The room was only fractionally larger than the bed. The suitcases wouldn't fit in the miniature wardrobe and had to be left by the bed, giving the impression that we were living atop a pyramid of our belongings. The bathroom was functional but tiny. The floorboards on the staircase outside our door creaked loudly late at night and early in the morning when we were trying to sleep in our tiny bed. The hotel is cute, reasonably tasteful and in a good area (hence 3 stars rather than one or two) and reminiscent of the cute little hotels you sometimes find in Paris - but I don't remember those being quite this small. At checkout we had to wait 20 minutes for the only person authorised to draw up our bill. We had to leave anyway or miss our plane. This made the staff (who didn't have planes to miss) pout and carry on like we were thieves. The management had our credit card details anyway (and billed us later) but we were unable to explain this to the staff whose scowling faces were our last impression of this hotel.

We stayed here in November 2011 and absolutely loved it. The B&B has a homey, comfortable yet elegant feeling and the staff is wonderful. Gloria, the innkeeper helped us so much. It's in a lovely residential area with excellent restaurants nearby: Le Flaubert, Templo de Inka, Aqui Esta Coco, in that order. However our most favorite restaurant in Santiago is Blue Jar near La Moneda, only open for lunch.

Room Tip: No elevator so you may prefer rooms near the ground floor. Romms are smallish but beautiful.

We stayed in this delightful hotel for two nights in April at the end of our South American hoilday. The hotel was superb, friendly and helpful Gloria took care of all of our needs. She willingly provided expert advice on how to spend our time in Santiago. The rooms were spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast were excellent and served in a beautiful sitting room that had acess to a comfortable outside patio area. we would not consider staying anywhere elese if we were to return to Santiago. This hotel is the best boutique value for money hotel we have stayed in on our numerous travels.

I stayed only one night, but wished I had stayed more!! (no room availability to complete my stay in Santiago). Great breakfast in the little quiet patio, just the perfect place to read the paper in the sun! I got one of the top floor rooms, it was spotless clean and tidy. I can say the same about the bathroom that was impeccable. It was not a very spacious room, so for a couple it might have been too small. But for just one person, it was totally fine. The location is also a plus, it is in a quiet street, but just some blocks away from major avenues.

We spent our last three nights on our extended holiday at the Vilafranca Petit Hotel in Santiago. The property is well-maintained and the staff and owner were cordial and professional. The rooms are small, the wood floors creak, but the location makes it a nice place to stay. Right now, they are dealing with construction across the street, so six days a week it is noisy after 8am. This is temporary, but should be noted. There are eight rooms and some nice common areas. The breakfast is very good, so you will feel energized as you start the day. The metro is a short walk and there are cool spots to shop and dine in the neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay.

We had searched the internet for weeks trying to find the "right" place in Santiago. Something which was homely, quiet, convenient location, close to the subway and shops and restaurants, but somewhere where you felt welcome and safe. Vilafranca met all these requirements plus more. The friendly reception staff greeted us with open arms, showing us our room which was on the top floor street side(very quiet even with a building under construction opposite), and who then took the time to explain the location and the spots to visit for us to get the most out of the bustling city. Very easy walk to the huge subway system of Santiago was a real plus as we were backpacking it all by train and bus for the next 6 weeks around Chile, Argentina and Brazil. So to trial it and get it right, in Santiago, was important. And that we did!! The Hotel provided the venue and relaxed atmosphere which made this all possible. A great find. Highly recommend the Hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor either front or rear would be ideal

Vivafranca is quite close to the metro. It is an elegant older home built in 1940 and lovingly furnished with original art, comfy sofas and great photo books of Chile to peruse in the living room. Out back is a great patio for relaxing. Gloria is a delightful and helpful host. This is a small hotel with about nine rooms. Our room had a comfortable bed and bathroom with a small tub/shower. It is spotlessly clean, a great location and we had a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, juice, excellent coffee, eggs, ham, toast with butter and jam. We felt more like we were visitng friends in their home than like we were staying in an impersonal hotel. I highly recommend this hotel.
