My husband and I spent four nights in Santiago at the Diego de Velazquez Hotel (Diego d V is the name of the street the hotel is on). We arrived late on a Sat. night and were worried that the music we could hear in our room on the second floor would be a problem. It wasn't and we didn't hear it again. The room was comfortable with a shower and sort of walk in closet area. The breakfast included peelable fruit, eggs, pastries, cereal, juice, coffee/tea--the usual but fine for me and was in an area that had enough tables for everyone. The area around the hotel had many restaurants and good public transportation. I would stay there again. The staff were okay; one gave me incorrect directions but then I don't speak Spanish and we may have had a language problem. Internet connection worked best in public areas. There was no fitness center thought it is shown in a brochure. I think we paid around $120 USD.

Room Tip: We were in the low rise section of the building. There is also a higher rise section. I don't...

+ : Large room, very good and central position close to bars, restaurants, metro.

- : Bad quality/price ratio. Cleaning just ordinary. Breakfast poor in choice, quality and quantity. The waiters even ask you for tip (for what? It is self service and they do not even clean the tables!). Internet connection is very weak, and for 2 days it was not even working. For room service you have to go yourself to a third party restaurant to order. There is no lift from the reception floor to 1st floor so you have to take the stairs carrying your own luggage. Even the laundry presses just the suites but not shirts or other wear. How can they claim to be a 4 stars hotel?

I guess you get what you pay for. At 90 USD pr night what you get in Santiago is a room with a nice new bathroom and aircondition, but not much else. A bit worn down, and the breakfast is well below par, even for a cheap place. Light or dark bread, some fruit, and some eggs, and that's about it. Centrally placed, and with free wifi all over the hotel, but still, would probably pay a bit more for a better breakfast.

Room Tip: very noisy from pipes, try to get a room high up to avoid listening to all the other guests flushing...

I traveled in South America: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile. At hotels, the 4 stars are well below European levels. Another general problem: very poor internet connection. Watch your pockets in the street.
The hotel was modest, with inconfortable rooms.
A bad breakfast.
A good position for travel.

Room Tip: I'm a smoker, smoking rooms are horrible

Overall: we recommend this hotel if you are only staying for a couple of days and don't plan on doing much sleeping/spending time in your room.

CONS: Despite the great location, we found the room somewhat disappointing. The room was incredibly small and dark with dated decor and didn't offer anything 'extra' for it's price bracket. Our room was located on the 5th floor and was incredibly noisy, even though it wasn't located next to the road. There was a constant buzzing noise which ran from around 7am until 11pm, which we are guessing may have been the exhaust system for the restaurant kitchen.

PROs: The staff at DDV were incredibly welcoming and were always polite. For the majority of the time, there were English speaking receptionists, and when there weren't, the Spanish speaking receptionists still tried their best to assist - we didn't seem to have any problems despite speaking very little Spanish. The room was always clean and the hotel restaurant had nice food and was reasonably priced.

LOCATION: DDV is located in the heart of the Provedincia neighborhood, located a 5 minute walk from Santiago's Subway system (great transport) and is surrounded by plenty of excellent restaurants. We always felt safe, even when walking around at night. Santiago is not arranged 'grid style' so unless you are incredibly gifted with navigating, make sure you have a local map in your pocket! Quite a considerable distance from the airport. Great location if you want to experience the boutique side of Santiago.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 5th floor and had alot of noise, so perhaps avoid any of the rooms above the restau...

This Hotel has such a perfect location. A small mall just next door, few steps from the subway...there is also a small shop that sells many stuff like chocolate, water, cooks, etc...

The bathrooms could be more modern...

We arrived early with a problem withreservations at the Los Andes suites hotel. The doorman, desk clerks and even the manager became involved in sorting out the issue. Expedia booked reservations that Los Andes suites would not honor. Hotel Diego de Velazquez got us beautiful suites in their apartment hotel called Andes suites stating that this mix up occurs too often and that expedia should visit and be more clear with the difference between the two hotels.
The staff were patient Kind and wonderful helping us return our rental car, make phone calls to expedia, Visa and finally settling us in two wondrful suites at very reasonable price. It was a wonderful way to spend our last two nights in Chile
