“Totally unique and creative way to see Santiago”

FotoRuta Santiago is such a great way to discover the Lastarria neighborhood of the city. Essentially a combination quick/fun photography course and creative stroll through the neighborhood, the FotoRuta experience taught us some great photography techniques and methods and then sent us off in groups on a treasure hunt of sorts to get great snaps of a list of clues. We then returned back and showed our best representation of each clue to the group and talked about our photos. This isn't a 'tour' in the traditional sense, as your camera is your only guide as you stroll through the streets at your own pace, noticing details you would normally look right over on any regular guided tour of town. You don't have to be a great photographer, either. We were mostly all total amateurs, but everyone still came back with great shots! This experience is as good for life-long locals as it is for first-time tourists, and this is a great way to meet new people and have a lot of fun seeing the city from a different perspective!

“A different way to see Santiago”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

FotoRuta is a very original way to experience Santiago, and especially one of its most picturesque parts - Barrio Lastarria. It does not matter if you have lived in Santiago for years, or you just arrived for a short visit - this tour is definitiely worth taking.
The first thing to mention is the fact that this is not an ordinary tour. You do not follow a guide, or learn something new about Santago's history. What you learn, however, is to open your eyes to everyday details you would have missed otherwise. You learn to capture an image of a little girl playing with her parents, or of a lazy dog sleeping the summer heat off. You are welcome and even encouraged to chat with locals and politely ask them to take photos of them.
And afterwards, everybody shows their photographs and gets feedback and profesional advice while enjoying a glass of wine... So, what's not to like?
This tour is focused on photograpy and every amateur or professional photographer should definitely take it as it will improve their skill. Maybe the best thing of this tour is the way it changes, forever, the way you look at the world around you.

“improve your photograph skills in a different and fun way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

Its a new way to improve your photographs skills (no matter at what level you are) , discovering your country or exploring new scenarios.
I recommend it , for people of all ages , that want to do something from a different perspective , and probably discover more about them self , their cameras (no matter how bad or good are they) and the wolds around them.
I really enjoy it so much that and I'm looking forwards to do it again soon.

“Fabulous way to see the city through a different lens.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

I've been living in Santiago for 5 years and in the Bellas Artes neighborhood itself for the last year, just on the other side of the hill from Lastarria, where the event I attended was hosted. I've explored the neighborhood many times, checking out the restaurants and cafes; but doing it with a camera in hand and searching out photo ops to match up with the clues provided, showed me a whole new side to the 'hood. Being a "local" I don't normally do guided tours, but this was different. It's not a tour in the true sense of the word. You're given a brief description of the neighborhood, some advice on taking good photos, a map, and a set of clues and off you go to explore on your own or with a partner. And then it's back to the starting point to compare photos over a glass of wine. Overall I would say it was a fabulous experience. I highly recommend it to both locals and tourists.

“A different way to discover a neighborhood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

I've been living in Santiago, near Lastarria, for the last 9 months. This activity helped me to see the neighborhood from a different perspective. It made me appreciate the small details of its architecture, the beauty of the street art, and the idiosyncrasy of its people.
The activity was really well organized, with some snacks, and a glass of wine at the end to comment the pictures we took. It doesn't matter if your camera is good or not, or if you know how to take pictures. The tour is about having fun, meeting new people and discover a place from a different perspective. I really recommend it, both for locals and travelers.
