We enjoy going to zoos and I had never been to this one in Santiago. We went toward the end of winter (early September) on a Wednesday afternoon and were glad there were not that many people, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The zoo is on San Cristabol hill so we took the funicular to the top entrance and walked our way down the winding paths to see the animals on hand. Most of them were just sleeping and the smell was occasionally fetid. Still, we enjoy zoos so it was fun for us, just not among the best we've seen. There are some nice views overlooking the city at certain places in the zoo.
If you are just looking for something to do, and you're not really a zoo buff, then look elsewhere.
