“Changing of the Guard a magnificent show”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We watched the changing of the guard on Saturday morning around 10 am which was its advertised time but it actually occurred closer to 11am. You first hear the band coming from behind you and they cross the major boulevard stopping all traffic till the last horse has crossed. Then they march in front of the Palace with the occasional dog marching along. The band even has a glockenspiel and there is much clicking of heels. The entire ceremony lasts about 20 minutes. Afterwards you can go under the square to the museum and exhibition that is there in ultramodern surroundings.

“Good place to refresh your culture and feet”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

A very nice art museum with rotating exhibits. Tickets from 5 to 10 USD (locals, tourists).
The museum is a large underground building, fresh in summer (hint, hint,..) and protected in winter.

The first/top area has a cafe/restaurant, bathrooms, two shops/exhibits and a number of kids do-your-own art spaces.
The intermediate floor has a research library research, two small cinemas, and office space.
The bottom floor is where the main exhibits are. Two large spaces and sometimes the central plaza is also site for installations.

An improvised bicycle parking is available close to the ticket booth. There is an adjoining car parking connected to the museum.

“Authentic crafts made by Mapocho Indians”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

We liked that we were supporting indigenous artisansby purchasing these crafts. The hammered silver earrings were impressive, as were the alpaca scarves. Very modern building. Plan your visit on the same day as the every-other-day changing of the Palace Guard. This is a treat to watch: band, horses, soldiers.

“Large Exhibition Space”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were there for the Peggy Guggenheim exhibition ... tourists pay full rate. But, the space is excellent and we enjoyed the ease of both English and Spanish explanations (on the art, not the brochure).
