I visit the museum with some friends last week. The place is georgous. A grand building with great marble sculptures, amazing art both modern and old. One of it's galeries offer a unique view of Chilean History through art, which help me a lot when thinking of Chile. So many things to learn in one visit. My friends tell me that they change periodically some of the expositions so it's always attracting visitors back inside.

This is a selection of art spanning the very impactful imperialism of Chile as well as its struggles for independence and then the establishment of identity. Among the pieces are some beautiful and interesting art work but as a whole I would have wanted a more extensive selection of works representing a Chilean identity.

The building inside and out is a real knock out. There is a small cafe restaurant run by the lovelyest gals. Excellent service too!

The skylights and balconies, floors and stairways are gorgeously ornate. It was worth a visit just to gaze at them. Admission is free. The building also faces onto a lovely city park. Unfortunately, on the day of my visit, all but two galleries were closed and I was unable to see any of the renowned collection.

This museum is one of my favorites in the capital. The permanent exposition is something that I enjoy every time I go there, but the rotative expositions are something amazing. This august I went to see "Desacatos", an amazing exposition of 44 pieces chosen by Gloria Cortes, and shows the participation of women in chilean art scenario, I totally recommend it!
